If you open a free checking account with First Citizens bank before November 15 and tell them I referred you, you'll get a $100 Visa gift card. I will get a $50 card. Everyone will be happy
You have to deposit $50 and leave it there for at least 90 days. After that, you are free to close the account and walk away with the gift card. There are no fees for the account during that time or anything, so you'll get a flat $100 profit.
PM me if you want to do it, and I'll give you my info. 10/26/2007 9:54:08 AM |

well this moment is analogous to the situation described above. Skwinkle set me up for the perfect dirty joke. And I honestly sat in my chair for 60 seconds trying to think of a good (funny) response. It didn't happen ] 10/26/2007 10:01:29 AM |

shawna, it does, but not a lot. it hurts it the same way applying for a mastercard does (which does hurt younger people with less active accounts) depends on the bank, but most that i know of do check your score. grab a checking account app next time you think about it
these places process your info through chexsystems, which is similar to equifax, etc (in that they have partialo financial history on you)... but those are really only dealing with you having a checking account bouncing checks, overdrafting the ATM, generally being a fraudulent asshole to a particular bank, etc. lots of account opener people were trained in better ways to get a more accurate risk potential
soooooooooooooooooo, they open your credit report most every time you go to open an account, which counts as an inquiry, which isnt that MUCH of a hit on your credit. but if you do that a bunch of times in a short period, it can hurt you a decent amount. someone can look up the particular numbers if they care, but your score goes down something like 5 points for the next 6 months after the inquiry.
but if you stay with the same bank and keep good accounts through them after the initial checks, and your bank knows you, or you have your IRA there, and bla bla, theyre not gonna pull you every time you add a secondary checking or small credit line or whatever.
at least thats the way i works in the bank world where jackleg keeps his 12 dollars
plus i think first citzens would fuck you in the ass royally for implying that these peopole open the account with the intention of closing it. in fact, you should read the "fine print" cause i bet youve already sign enough away that they wouldnt even have to take it to court 12/19/2007 4:37:30 PM |

Dude, opening a checking account has no bearing on your credit history.
Quote : | "Dear Dr. Don, I know the length of your credit history affects your FICO score. How does opening and closing bank accounts, or switching banks, affect your credit score? -- Judy Jump - advertisement -
Dear Judy, The opening and closing of bank (deposit) accounts doesn't affect your credit score. Your credit score is based on your lending relationships and public records, such as bankruptcy filings or court judgments recorded against you.
There are consumer reports that track your banking history. These reports fall under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, or FCRA, and you have the right to dispute information in these reports under the dispute provisions of that act.
The most widely used consumer banking report is a ChexSytems report. A Bankrate feature, "How to get your specialty consumer reports," explains how you can request a free copy of that report and other noncredit consumer reports. You can get one free copy of each of these reports annually just like you can with your credit reports.
Negative information stays on your ChexSystems report for five years. Banks will typically take a look at a report before deciding whether they want you as a customer. If you're jumping from bank to bank to accumulate awards, or toasters, it could influence a bank's decision to take on your business.
Lenders do often look at your banking relationship as part of the decision to extend you credit, but that doesn't mean it shows up in your credit score. Remember the part of the credit application that asks you to list a bank account?" |

in summary:
opening accounts - doesn't affect bank's interest in doing business with you opening and closing counts repeatedly - affects bank's interest in doing business with you

the only cases in which ive seen overdrafting hurt people long term is if they say "fuck it" and dont re-zero the balance. in that case, the account closes eventually and you get reported to chexsystems for a negative close, and you'll have to wait some amount of time before you can open an account somewhere else. unless you pay it back, then you only have to wait like half that time.
i think chexsystems catches most of that kind of shit, so i dont think it goes on the actual credit report if its a checking account.
(please note that i am not 100% on the amounts of time or info in my posts on credit in this thread, these are just things i have witnessed personally or heard about through attorneys) 12/19/2007 5:01:39 PM |

you should really stay out with the bad advice. half of us could google the same phrase to get that page. this is not the same thing. and even if it were, if bank of america checks my credit score because they dont get enough risk info from chexsystems, then it DOES impact my score. no way to argue against it, no matter what you google

damn dude i even PMed you and said i apologized if i came across as a dick and let you know when and how i found out they did credit checks when you go to open more than standard primary and secondary checking accounts at more than one bank (and likely when you go to open less)
i did that #1 the info was a little personal, and #2 because it takes away from the intelligence of the conversation when its in public looking like a pissing contest, but lets squash it
Quote : | "I'm going off what a bank manager told me, so unless you too work as a bank manager...." |
a "bank manager" (haha) told you
Quote : | "opening a checking account has no bearing on your credit history." |
you don't need to be a "bank manager" or a link from google to know that your credit history is made up of not only of the history of paid and unpaid accounts, history how much you owe versus how much you could potentially borrow, but also the history of inquiries into the report itself. i'm no "bank manager", so I have no idea exactly how much it does impact your score to have inquiries, but I do know that it hurts people in the slow/no credit 18-25 range a lot more than people who have a more solid history.
its a simple fact, man... lots of banks have moved away from chexsystems as their only source of background checking and have started having a look at credit reports. checking accounts aren't what they used to be, and they are riskier to banks here in 2007. i'm not sure what bank your friend is the manager of (haha) - but seriously, do a little reading about the difference between checksystems and the "big 3" and also the similarities. you could also go a little further while youre on that road and read more about the insurance of your money in the bank, and read about the standards of risk detection they've recommended.
i dont know much about this shit in general, but i do happen to know a lot about the basics of credit scores and the role/importance that chexsystems plays. 10 years ago if you had a closed account with a negative balance greater(less) than X reported to chexsystems from wachovia, you could not get a checking account ANYWHERE for a long time, even if it had been paid for years. that's not the case anymore.
in other words, maybe 10 years ago your bank manager friend would be right. maybe he told you 10 years ago, and you havent read any newspapers or gone into any banks since then... but i think your friend and i agree that credit inquiry = not viewed as good. now add the apply for checking = credit inquiry and do the math. no, applying for one credit card isnt gonna kill your credit. setting up an account at a new bank won't kill you. but signing up for new banks every other month is bad bad bad
and i am intentionally writing as much as i can to be annoying. i've watched the past 12 minutes of the memphis/cincy game and there are only 2 minutes left and its looking like its gonna be a good one. so you can waste an hour writing a reply and i will waste twice as long on my reply then this can be the longest fucking retarded waste of thread and life ever. also if you dont mind telling us who the bank manager is (branch manager? loan account manager?) and where they are located, we'd appreciate it. so we will know where to not put our money
