why do most teams run out of bounds or throw it deep in that situation instead of doing this?

Because I would guess that 99% of the time it is going to fail and end up with an illegal forward pass or the other team getting it. It seems like the defense gave up though.

905% of the time the team just throws it as far and high as they can into 8 defenders and flutie is the only time its ever worked.

also i have never seen a game end in a lateral that the other team got. every lateral play that didnt score was because somebody just got tackled or went out of bounds. i'm not saying it would work everytime but i rather lose by losing a lateral than getting tackled out of bounds or an interception to 8 guys

you should never end a game that is less than a td by being tackled or going out of bounds and you should never throw it up if you're on your side of the field. its 2 for 2876. it doesn't work.

every week i see guys get tackled at the end of games or run out of bounds.

show me a big conference game that ended in a failed lateral this season and i'll give you 50 dollars. it doesn't happen.

even the michigan one that worked the last guy was a bonehead and ran out of bounds

If I was down by 8 or less on the final play and I'm getting tackled, I just chuck the thing backwards hoping my teammates are paying attention. I don't want to end the game with the ball in my hands in that situation unless I'm in the endzone.

I did this a few times in high school games and the coach would bitch at me, but I would tell him "What benefit would me going down with the ball possibly have?" At least there was a chance if I threw it behind me that someone would catch it and the play would go on. Once it almost worked and we got to about the 15 yard line. He was a dumbass though and would make me run wind sprints the next day whenever I tried to lateral.

Also Auburn tried that on the same day, with one second left, against LSU. They screwed up and lateraled to a guy along the sidelines who was easily forced out.

i'm not saying that. im saying guys always get tackled or go out of bounds IF they happen to do it 5% of games. but show me a game where the other team recovers the lateral (because thats why some of the users said teams dont do it that much because they'll lose the fumble.
