is this the weakest FA class ever? there are hardly 5 guys worth getting excited over. love him or hate him, A-Rod is obviously in that group, followed by Hunter and maybe andruw. after that, it drops quickly. if this were 3 or 4 years ago, the SP crop would be unbelievable, but now all those guys are old and less than impressive. rivera is probly on that short list, but he's old. for some reason, i like cordero, he's younger and has been great the past couple of years. other than that, teams don't have alot to hope for. 11/2/2007 6:17:14 AM |

i hope the A's grab a FA or two. because damn, we need some help. i've heard the A's mention Wilkerson (that's all we need, another 1B/OF)... 11/2/2007 7:37:21 AM |

ehh, I disagree... most of the available pitching is way too old. I was looking at the whole list the other day, and I'm pretty sure the best available pitcher under 30 was Jason Jennings. The most interesting pitcher this offseason is going to be Santana (I read some article on espn about it) - either the Twins get full value for him in the offseason, trade him at the deadline, or hope they can go all the way in their last year because they're not going to resign him.11/2/2007 10:23:45 AM |

Are you serious? Cashman would pull that in a second. Wang, a 4th outfielder and a projectable but long ways away talent like Tabata for the best pitcher of the decade? Uh, if the Twins would accept that and the Yankees don't do it they are insane...11/2/2007 11:08:42 AM |

Contract year + CBP = career year offensively.
If anyone thinks Rowand is going to be worth anywhere near the $$$ he'll command they are insane. He's a great guy, busts his ass and his grittiness offsets his lack of pure athletic ability defensively but he isn't in the Hunter/Andruw/Beltran class... 11/2/2007 11:31:55 AM |

.287 BA 28 Homers 107 RBIs 18 SBs.....pretty similar to Andruw's numbers except the average

Here is an interesting name being dangled out here. Lincecum is available.
The Marlins love young players who they can controll for a long time. Lincecum would have 2 full years before arbitration and 3 more before free agency.
Miguel Cabrera is on the cusp of becoming eligible for free agency (I think after '09 he is) and is already due a huge raise via arbitration. The Giants need to replace Bonds with another big bat.
Maybe some deal including Lincecum and Miggy would be doable... 11/2/2007 4:04:07 PM |

How the fuck do you rank Livan, Silva, and Lohse higher than Glavine or Rogers? Livan is just as old and more worthless, Silva and Lohse maybe younger, but both are just plain bad pitchers overall.

this isnt a career ranking, when you rank free agents you rank them on their short and long term ability to help your team. Glavine and Rogers have only the very short term. Most teams will take lohse for 3-4 years over glavine for one11/2/2007 5:20:02 PM |

Quote : | "Cubs snag Fukudome with 4-year, $48M deal December 11, 2007
Associated Press
CHICAGO (AP) -- Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome and the Chicago Cubs reached a preliminary agreement Tuesday on a $48 million, four-year contract.
The deal is subject to a physical, according to a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made. The agreement could be finalized as early as Wednesday.
Fukudome was considered one of the best outfielders in Japanese baseball. The 30-year-old slugger was a key member of the Japan team that won the inaugural World Baseball Classic in March 2006.
He had surgery on his right elbow in August and sat out the Japan Series, but has 192 homers and a .305 batting average over nine seasons with the Chunichi Dragons, who won their first championship in 53 years on Nov. 2.
After becoming a free agent, Fukudome drew interest from the Cubs, San Diego Padres and White Sox.
He is expected to play right field for the Cubs, who traded outfielder Jacque Jones to Detroit this offseason and declined their contract option on veteran Cliff Floyd.
All-Star slugger Alfonso Soriano returns in left and speedy prospect Felix Pie is expected to take over in center after shuttling between the majors and minors this season. The Cubs hope Fukudome will provide the consistent left-handed bat they seek to go with righties Soriano, Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee.
Chicago won the NL Central title last season before being swept by Arizona in the first round of the playoffs.
Fukudome was the 2006 Central League MVP, batting .351 with 31 homers and 104 RBIs. He recently told the Dragons he wouldn't return next season, saying he wanted to move to the major leagues.

Bonds to the A's looks like a strong possibility if he stays out of jail. As an A's fan, I would like to see Bonds' bat in the lineup... but thats about it. Scared he will bring too much baggage to such a laid back club. 12/12/2007 10:25:26 AM |
