oh, so that's who "Feist" is...... So does she owe 100% of her success to Apple, or only 99%?

it really annoys me when the Weekend Update people laugh at themselves and each other.
Even worse is when they make a "particularly clever" pun or something, then pause and smugly look into the camera and mouth "think about it". i mean, whatever happened to subtlety? They all need to take some lessons from Kevin Nelon....

^^^You're right. I had sort of gotten used to their style until Chevy Chase was a WU guest recently. He blew them away with his masterful deadpan.

The whole telling-the-fake-news thing used to work because they acted like stuffy newscasters. Now they just act themselves. I can't say I dislike them, though.

I hate the current weekend update hosts. i can't even watch SNL anymore, I wish comedy central would start airing the old ones again like they did 8 or so years ago.

Brian Williams was alright...I thought it could've been much, much better. The straight-laced guys always have the most potential to be hilarious.

"Next Week:" The Rock and Amy Winehouse

On the weekly update thing, I think I agree. I can't think of any deadpan style humor used at all on the show now. I do think it's funny when the actors break form during rare, natural moments, like the Schweaty Weiner skit, but it seems like the show is trying to score the same points by having actors smirk/laugh on a regular basis in weekly update.

I remember Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler used to a do a skit called "The Spyglass", where they were tabloid news hosts - they did a fantastic job, but the skit was dropped some time ago.

Exactly how I feel, it's ridiculous.

I thought Brian Williams was good. I wish they would have had him do Weekend Update though.

I thought that too...it seemed like an obvious thing...either to have him sit in for Seth Myers or have him interrupting the broadcast with pointers on "how it's done."

Yeah, next week's not going to happen. I don't even know why they have a new episode slotted for that date. They might as well have announced Jesus and the Beatles as next week's host and musician.

Unless the writers' strike resolves itself quickly (they're meeting today according to Variety), next week's show is definitely not gonna happen.

Though, with Amy Winehouse as the musical guest, it's highly probable that it wouldn't have happened anyway...with or without the strike.

That's my favorite part of WU. The one about Larry Craig was equally as funny.

Amy Poehler: "And it doesn't bother me that you tried to have gay sex in an airport bathroom, I'm bothered that you tried to have any sex in an airport bathroom. I don't like to use the bathroom in an airport bathroom."

And has their staff taken a huge cut or what? I think Poehler is in every skit. They had to bring in Sanz cause he's the only guy that looks like Richardson. And their token black guy Kenan Thompson doesn't look anything like Obama at all. Maybe if they need a guy they can stick Fred Armisen in that role. Although he did a good Gravel.

btw, was Brian Williams Dumbledore?

Yeah, they had a major staff cutback prior to last season. Dropped three or four cast members and eliminated the "featured players."

I don't think so...I think it was Will Forte.

That sketch was totally lost on me.

were you aware of the fact that JK Rowling said in an interview last week that Dumbledore was gay the whole time, even though she never mentioned it in the books?
that would be an important piece of background knowledge for that sketch....

^ I was aware--it was all over the news--but I've never read a single Harry Potter book or seen any of the movies, so I don't have any other context otherwise.
