eerily similar to the police blotter bullshit in regards to the insane overreaction. possible $250k fine and 20 years in prison? WTF? 11/5/2007 4:15:08 PM |

How is this similar to the police blotter incident at all?
These guys deserve very harsh punishment. 20 years is probably overkill, but I don't think some jail time is unreasonable. 11/5/2007 4:17:30 PM |

^ You have to realize that kind of thing is normal. News reports always state statutory maximums to scare/deter people and overblow a story. In reality, they'll likely not get anywhere near that as the punishment. It doesn't make sense to post a thread to bitch about some news article listing the statutory maximum punishment for a crime. 11/5/2007 4:26:56 PM |

who wants to bet that the supervisor's login was like:
name: joeroberts
pw: roberts1
and this Escalera guessed right. hell i'm sure i could get 8/10 people's passwords in my office on the first guess.11/5/2007 4:28:30 PM |

I should certainly freaking hope that an IT manager would have a better password than that. If for no other reason than the system should *require* a better password than that. 11/5/2007 4:32:53 PM |

yeah this guys hacking was for gain
I think I remember there being something in the law that makes that worse
and if a sophomoric indiscretion like the police blotter incident warrants a max sentence of 10 years I think they may execute this fucker
that's right, fuck this guy up I have never cheated in college and I think the actions of these two cheapen my degree (at an unconnected institution) 11/5/2007 6:15:06 PM |

someone forgot to obscure their doings sufficiently
The other night on America's Most Smartest Model, they [the judges] interpreted a straight up act of cheating as simply, "Being competetive". Maybe one day "Hacking the System" will be a valid thesis paper. ]] 11/5/2007 6:26:00 PM |

it said it was web based. Probably just an everyday packetsniffer, filter for IP address, wait 30 minutes after lunch when they log back in, profit. 11/5/2007 7:32:27 PM |
