Want to search for classes by time the class starts, possible or not? 11/9/2007 11:21:26 AM |

I don't think you can do this using any one the currently available tools. With the old xtracs software, you could pick all the classes you wanted, block off certain time periods if you wanted to, and it would generate all possible schedules for you to look at. 11/9/2007 12:32:48 PM |

oh yeah and
you can do this

My best friend wrote this amazing program in python. It allows you to type in courses and will generate a list of every schedule combination. It has a great interface too and is color coded (for example orange meant there was some kind of restriction)
Never used this xtracs first hand, but from watching some use it, it looks like it could use a redesign at least.
here is a screenshot of my friends program:

^Is it available for download?
If not, tell him I'd be willing to pay ~$5 for download and use of this program. 11/10/2007 8:57:29 PM |

I'll shoot him an email and find out if he still has all the stuff uploaded on the web somewhere. As well as see if he updated it any. What I have is from our freshman year, 2 years ago, that he made for some introductory computer science course.
I had to install a few things because I run windows: GTK, python and something else. I just need to know the website he sent me for these runtime environments. The program itself is fairly tiny, just 8 files each less than 15KB.
If there is enough interest I can make a thread in study hall about it, once I hear back from him. 11/11/2007 8:45:51 AM |

if he hasn't updated it, i'd be more than willing to get it working with current data, i'm a fairly proficient python programmer
i just don't feel like writing something from scratch. 11/13/2007 3:07:22 AM |

I'm going to turn this into its own thread since the thread creator is wanting something a little different. 11/13/2007 9:16:23 AM |
