you guys....
they've never been used but technically are refurbished, so i call them "new refurbished" but there's also use refurbished, and not working refurbished
and to you ^, no refurb is not a subset of used. you can refurbish something before it is even sold.

Refurbishment (restoration) is the process of major maintenance or minor repair of an item, either aesthetically or mechanically. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refurbish 11/12/2007 7:49:26 PM |

not to mention heres a dell thats the newer model, faster everything, and actually has wireless (who would spend $400 and not get wireless??) for only $50 more...and its actually brand new. http://tinyurl.com/ysg3uo
theres this too: http://www.salescircular.com/nc/computer/laptpp.shtml but most people would probably wait until black friday anyway. http://bfads.net/]11/12/2007 11:34:38 PM |

But if it is refurbished doesn't that mean that they fixed it?
dictionary.com To make clean, bright, or fresh again; renovate.
I guess I've always defined refurbished to mean: 1) Used. You have to use the computer in order to find out that it is broken. 2) Fixed. Otherwise the condition can't be upgraded from "broken" to "refurbished."
Either way it's nice to know. In the future I'll be certain to ask for a clearer definition of refurbished to make sure someone isn't trying to rip me off.11/13/2007 9:22:53 AM |

The Vostro 1000 also is a 15.4" while the 1501 you're selling is 14.1". Both models are also about the same weight, just more caseing around the 1501 screen to make it smaller. The Vostro can also be ordered with either XP or Vista.
It's also only $50 to upgrade to 1 GB of Ram on the Vostro as well.
All in all, it comes down to a $50 difference (half of that is tax) to: A) Get a brand new notebook with your choice of OS (Recommend XP, esp with sys specs. B) Bigger screen. C) Warranty is in your name right off the bat, so less hassle (if someone else is selling a PC, that user has to be the one to change the warranty into someone else's name. Otherwise, Tech Support can't verify you are the rightful owner. D) 1501 is silver while Vostro 1000 is black.
So this can be a decent deal, just not a great deal.
On a side note, I've never seen a 1501 sold (new or refurb) that didn't have wireless built-in for default. 11/13/2007 12:52:45 PM |

actually its only $30 more for the 1GB on the Vostro...and with that $30 you also get a 120GB Hard Drive (instead of 60GB), and a DVD burner instead of the combo drive. Money well spent in my book

Well honestly if it was brand new, factory sealed from dell and he would transfer the warranty to you at time of purchase...then it wouldn't be a horrible deal at $400, if $400 was the absolute most you could spend. but it still wouldn't even be a good deal if the laptops were brand new and sealed. ntm i will always pay a slight premium to buy from the manufacturer rather than through a middleman for a number of reasons.
he shouldn't have any problem selling them on CL for $450 though...
though if people really want refurb, and want to order directly from dell, theres a site for it:

I just saw a vostro on there that came with an AMD Dual-Core Processor, 1GB of RAM and Wireless for $419+tax] 11/13/2007 1:28:04 PM |

I'm not trying to make money here, only to get rid of the too many laptops i have on hand, and it is a good deal anyway you look at it it has a full 1 year warranty so i dont see what the risk is,
anyways still have 6 available 11/13/2007 10:11:26 PM |
