ESPN is showing this year's hockey hall of fame class on the front of their website (as of 2pm), and Ron Francis is in a Penguins jersey. I'm pretty sure he was there when they won 2 Stanley Cups, but that was amazing to me because he is/was the face of the Hurricanes/Whalers. Is it Bristol, Connecticut jealousy that he isn't in a Canes jersey? 11/12/2007 1:58:48 PM |

I hate to say it, but let's face it, the hockey world is going to remember Ron Francis for his days with Lemiuex, Jagr, Stevens, Samuelson, Barrasso, and co. That is where he had his best years, his most visibility, and won a Cup. I'll remember him for the overtime goal against the Wings and all the things he did to build this team here in Raleigh, but I can't really fault ESPN. 11/12/2007 2:18:16 PM |

he won back to back cups with the penguins, why wouldn't ESPN put him as a penguin? 11/12/2007 3:20:10 PM |

That's totally true, and I'll admit that I wasn't a hockey fan back then, but I truly doubt that he was the face of the Penguins to the degree that he was the face of the Whalers/Canes. I thought that Penguins team was Lemieux + Cast whereas Francis was a huge part of making hockey viable around here (a.k.a A huge part of the 2002 Stanley Cup run)11/12/2007 4:23:29 PM |

I've always thought of him more as a Penguin than a Whaler/Cane.

lemieux, jagr, stevens, francis, and murphy

Tommy B played for the Canes, too, but he'll always be a Penguin.
This thread is silly. 11/12/2007 7:59:00 PM |
