What are some good places to go to hear live music in Nashville? Looking for bars or clubs, music venues, etc. or websites to look up what is going on? Thanks.

exit/in is fun, some good shows there. may have closed down, or maybe it was the indie venue across the street that did.

If you have never been before, all the honky tonk bars on Broadway are worth checking out. There is pretty much a free country music act in every place and there was no cover when I went (Tootsies, Robert's Western World, etc). The Stage resembled more of a small concert atmosphere and was a good time. Depending on what night you go, some of these places will have an older and very mixed crowd.

If you are looking for a more college crowd, head all the way down Broadway and you'll find plenty of bars on second avenue.

If you are taking a babe, Blue Bird Cafe and the Opry would be good.

There are also supposed to be alot of bars on Demonbreun Street, but I never had a chance to hit them up. I think they cater to an older crowd.

If you like bluegrass, The Station Inn.

Anywhere on Broadway. There is one huge place--maybe the longbranch?--that was decent and has some bigger acts sometimes, but may have a cover. There are several places along like Tootsies that are well known. If you just walk up that 4 or 5 block stretch of Broadway, you can hear the music from the door and pick what appeals to you.

FYI most places are 21+, if that is an issue for anyone in your group.

mark i think you're talkin about the wildhorse saloon on 2nd ave N. sometimes it has well known bands, that's a good place to check out. there's also line dancing. they also do lessons there, too, before the party really gets started. yeehaw. the blue bird is a good choice, but i also recommend just walking up and down broadway. there's a good country-western place with a little balcony bar thing upstairs, i can't remember the name of it though

can't stress enough the 21 and up thing, there's basically nowhere that will let you in under 21.

ps make sure you go to the store that has boots buy one pair get one free! you only pay 400 or more a pair!!!

check out this website. It usually lists the entertainment stuff going on in Nashville. I agree with the Honky Tonks though on Broadway. Also Demonbreun also has some good bars on it with live music. (Near Vanderbilt)

^^^^Wildhorse is what I was thinking of. It's been a couple years...

The beef brisket at Jacks BBQ on Broadway is phenomenal. You can actually find a really good selection, and a decent deal on boots if you hit the right place. It's absolutely worth it to stay within walking distance of Broadway if you can afford it, particularly if noone really wants to be DD. I've stayed at a nice hotel that was an old train depot, and a Days Inn on Broadway. The Opryland is just a big shopping mall with a hotel and the Opry itself, and some amusement park type stuff. I'd avoid staying there for sure, but the Grand Ole Opry itself is a neat experience. It returns to Ryman Auditorium for about a month every summer as well.

You'll find really good live music wherever you go. The street musicians in Nashville are better than you will find playing bars/clubs in Raleigh and most cities.

I practically grew up in downtown Nashville, my parents were very trusting back in the day and were good friends with several people that owned bars/clubs there, but a lot of that is long gone now.

Would definitely tour the Honky Tonks, Tootsies is a must, there are several "mega" country clubs on 2nd ave. now but that was never my style. The Underground used to be the shit, its on the northwest end of second ave, near spaghetti warehouse and hooters, and its underground literally... might not be there now actually. and yu have to go to the Brass Stables in Printer's Alley, its an ancient strip club with some odd chicks there, definitely NOT a typical strip club

During the summer, on thursday nights they used to have "dancing in the district", free concerts by the riverfront in downtown nashville.
But, its been 7 years since I lived in nashville, so I dont know if they still do that.

BTTT. i am heading to nashville for a long weekend at the end of the month. I already know about the honkytonks and have plans to see the country music hall of fame, a stop at the brass stables and several other things in mind.

But what are some good restaurants and other things to do during the afternoon? I haven't been to nashville since in probably 7-8 years when i was there for hockey
