okay, so I hit a curb the other day, pretty hard, hard enough to bend the rim. Flat tire is not a problem.
The problem is it won't turn over.
I checked the battery with a meter, 11.62 Volts, there is, and has been, corrosion on the red terminal. And when I looked at it yesterday it had a blue tint, instead of white. I tried jumping it off my buddies car and no luck. If it was the alternator gone bad I think that the battery would have had no voltage.
I am going to try cleaning the terminal, but doubt that will solve the problem.
What can you mess up electronically by hitting a curb? Would a 93 Ford Escort have a fuel cuttoff switch?

12.7 volts when the car is off is a fully charged battery, your battery is dead, your terminals are also not providing a good connection. replace all of the above. 11/20/2007 12:53:09 PM |

you gotta run your car into the curb pretty hard to knock 1.1V out of the battery. 11/20/2007 1:02:46 PM |

But if it is a Ford, then it does have an inertia switch. 11/20/2007 1:17:00 PM |

my 89 bronco II had one. need some further info:
do you even hear any clicking? like the starter solenoid? or nothing?
no clicking and good battery = inertia switch, or a bad solenoid
clicking = dead battery or bad starter
if its a stick try roll starting it. still wont start then most likely the inertia switch 11/20/2007 6:01:47 PM |

I found the fuel cutoff switch, switched it back on Cleaned the battery terminals and cables, starts again
and made a trip out to LKQ and pulled a rim with a decent tire on it,
problem is fixed
There were soooo many Escorts in the junk yard, not a good sign
but mine runs again, for now.

^You DO realize that they made a metric shit-ton of them, and that's one reason there are so many in the junkyard.
They ain't bad cars if maintained properly, but they ain't my first choice either. 11/21/2007 3:21:58 PM |
