Will Apple's DRM prevent me from simply installing itunes on the new computer and syncing my ipod to it? The new one is a laptop and I don't plan to retire my desktop does anyone have any experience using one ipod with two computers?

What is the thing where you can upgrade your itunes library to no DRM, how much does it cost? Has anyone done that.

(Please don't bother telling me how much itunes sucks and all that shit. I like it and I'm not interested in hearing it.)

evan posted a thread a month or so ago that was a link to an app that will remove the DRM protection from files.. that's what I'd look into personally

no, it won't.

you'll need to find a way to transfer the actual song files (they end with m4p) to your new computer.

when you first try to play them on your new computer, it'll say that your computer isn't authorized to play them and it will ask you to log in to your apple account; do that and they'll play just fine.

if you plug in your ipod to a computer with no music in the library, it will most likely reformat your ipod. you need to transfer your library (usually stored in C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes Music or C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes Music, or on a mac in /Users/username/Music/iTunes Music) to the new computer. make sure itunes is set to copy files added to the library to the itunes music folder and just drag and drop them over.

the no-DRM upgrade thing you're referring to is iTunes Plus, and it's only available for certain songs, not your entire library.

the program i posted before is called myFairTunes. search google for it. it strips your files of the DRM so you can use them just like any other AAC. if you don't have a reason to do this, though, i don't recommend doing it.

lemme know if you have any more questions, bff.

you know, i got offered a job as a mac genius once

Can I use my ipod in disk mode for the transfer? I don't have a flash drive big enough to transfer the whole library at once. Can I connect the two computers with a USB and do it that way?

yep. put your ipod into disk mode.

make sure you have "show hidden files and folders" turned on in View Options in windows. (Tools > Folder Options > View, do this in any folder in windows)

go to my computer, double click on your ipod, double click on the folder called "ipod_control" or something like that

then double click on "Music"

you'll see a bunch of folders, just drag and drop these onto your new computer somewhere, or into itunes if you have the "copy to folder when adding to library" thing turned on in itunes prefs

After both computers are set up what will happen if I download some stuff with the desktop, sync the ipod, and then hook it up to the laptop... Will it say "itunes has detected some shit you downloaded would you like to add it to your itunes library?"
