I want to get my boyfriend a Blackberry for Christmas but he uses Alltel and I don't... they don't do the whole SIM card thing so they would have to activate it and they'd probably charge me a million dollars for the phone... does anyone work with Alltel or know how this could work? could I buy a phone on eBay or something? Would they still activate it then? Should I ask for the customer discount at the Alltel store since its for a customer? I don't know.

Just buy him an Alltel gift card for the amount of the phone with a 2 year contract renewal. They will rob you on the price of the phone if you just buy it without extending your contact.

They will activate a phone bought on eBay. Just make sure to search for Alltel Blackberry phones.

Buying without a contract will probably run 500-700 for a new one from Alltel. And there is no customer discount unless your activating a new line or upgrading and extending your contract out another 1-2 years. The "customer discount" does not exist because obviously if you buy a phone from them and it can't be used on any other network, then chances are it will be a customer using it.
