Quote : | "Wake County sheriff's investigators say Cooper shot and killed Ossama "Sam" Haj-Hussein, 43, inside the In & Out Food Mart on Creech Road on May 12, 2006.
Less than a month later, on June 3, 2006, Raleigh police found LeRoy Jernigan, 41, of Clayton, dead inside Circus Restaurant on Wake Forest Road in Raleigh, where he worked as a cleaning contractor.
This year, on April 27, Timothy David Barnwell, 34, died at WakeMed after police found him outside his second-story apartment at Windsor Falls Apartments. Police say his ankles and wrists were bound and that he jumped off his apartment's balcony to escape and might have tried to crawl away before he was shot multiple times.
And last month, a homeless man, Ricky High, 48, was shot and killed near St. Augustine's College; another man was injured. Two days later, on Oct. 14, Tariq Hussain, 52, was found dead inside Bobby's Grocery on Garner Road. " |

They were pretty much all robberies. Imagine if you worked at the bank he robbed the day he got caught. He did not shoot during that robbery but its pretty clear he has no hangups with killing people. 11/27/2007 9:57:07 PM |

no one would rob a homeless man.

that doesn't sound much like a robbery either. I don't think I person would jump out of a balcony while tied up if they didn't think their life was in serious jeopardy.11/27/2007 9:58:54 PM |

well yeah but when the dude is robbing you and has taken the time to tie you up, you're not likely to get out of that alive anyway... they are just waiting until they have all the loot to blow your face off. 11/27/2007 10:00:40 PM |

he could have tied the victim up and just as easily left them once he was done. something probably provoked the dead guy to think otherwise. 11/27/2007 10:03:28 PM |

well in any case, bro has concluded his chapter of civil life by forfeit, and now has to have justice served upon him like the mighty blows of a lead pipe on your skull. to bad hes only 30, and could have salvaged his life for the better had he thought about it a little longer. 11/27/2007 10:03:36 PM |

^^ I'm sure theres a deal that he won't get the death penalty if he pleads guilty to all of them. The guy has already spent 12 years in prison and has escaped once in the past.
Quote : | "According to court records, Cooper has a criminal record dating back to 1993 in Wake County that includes 10 arrests, 19 charges, including assault on a police officer, escape from prison, robbery, assault on a female, drug charges and larceny.
In 1999, Cooper was one of three inmates who overpowered a guard and escaped from custody while on a Wake County inmate work crew. He was apprehended a few days later.
At that time, he was serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery, assault and drug charges.
Having served 12 years with at least 20 infractions, he was released from prison in February 2006 on good behavior, three months before Haj-Hussein's death." |
If I found myself in that situation I would have relocated.11/27/2007 10:59:01 PM |

^^ if yuo killing people during a violent crime it is automatic for the da to seek the death penalty and peruse it without a bargain. this would be silly if he got anything other then death, 11/27/2007 11:05:30 PM |

Linked to 12 more robberies
Quote : | "Investigators are now linking more unsolved violent crimes with Samuel James Cooper, including more than a dozen armed robberies in the Raleigh area." |
Quote : | "Authorities there confirmed Wednesday that Cooper was charged with two counts of attempted murder during a home invasion earlier this month in which he allegedly shot two people in the head.
"Both are considered very lucky to be alive," Capt. Perry Brookshire with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said. "I think he has actually said that he thought he had killed both of them. And he's made a comment that he normally does kill the individuals."" | ]11/28/2007 4:24:33 PM |

Quote : | "WRAL has learned from unnamed sources, however, that Cooper confessed to the crimes while in custody and that forensic tests on a gun seized by police tie him to all five cases. The arrest of Cooper's father on a felony weapons charge was a factor in Cooper's confession, sources say.
Prosecutors later dropped the charge against the elder Cooper.
"There are a lot of tools in the crime-fighting arsenal," local attorney and former prosecutor Karl Knudsen said.
State Bureau of Investigation agents would not talk about the Cooper case, but said spent bullets and shell casings can hold clues that can be as powerful as fingerprints at a crime scene. " |
Looks like what brought him down was arresting his Dad and then getting ahold of the actual gun used in the robberies. Once he knew he was fucked he told them everything. ]11/29/2007 9:30:47 AM |

Quote : | "I asked Cooper if he was capable of doing something to officers while in custody. Cooper laughed again and replied, "I say I think we both know the answer to that don't we?"
But we don't know the answer to why he allegedly confessed his crimes to investigators last week, but is denying his involvement now. Maybe it's because he's rethinking a decision to leave himself with only two options: Life in prison or the death penalty.
"What's the difference between life in prison and death?" Cooper said. "It's all the same to me."
Cooper said he'd rather fight the charges and take a chance on the death penalty than go to prison for life.
I also asked him about the victims of the crimes he's charged with. Cooper said he didn't know any of the victims of the crimes he's charged with, and he didn't feel any emotion about their deaths. " |
