unless your performance is an issue at work, what you do outside of work shouldn't be subject to scrutiny.

what you do outside of work shouldn't be subject to scrutiny

regardless of whether or not your performance is an issue at work

(when is your performance not an issue, anyway?)

companies should only care about what you bring to work

(physically, mentally, emotionally, etc.)

if they test for drugs, they should test for alcohol.

because if you drink then surely you are an alcoholic.

i too find it kind of crazy. im down for drug tests, but what type of drugs?? and how can you be sure its not happening at work?

i also feel that as long as you dont bring it to work, you're fine. but there will be that time when it will cross paths, and you will miss work because you are high/on drugs/drunk.

or do you really not consume any alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, otc's, or prescriptions?

I don't get it

why the hell would a communist "be more likely" to use [illegal] drugs? (if that's what you're suggesting)

am I missing something?

lets be real here.

clearly when we are talking about drugs we are talking about the drugs that show up on drug tests.

unless caffeine, and alcohol show up (which i dont know because ive never done a test)

^^^^depends on the test

i THINK hair tests can reveal alcohol use, and i'm pretty sure that any drug use, whether you flushed your system or not, will show up in hair tests

Considering how shitty LabCorp is (one of the most used testers) I'd say you've got a pretty good chance to have some things not show up if you make sure your urine is diluted enough- as long as it hasn't been TOO recent.

There are minimum levels that these inexpensive tests are able to catch- so if you're close to the edge of detectability already then yes drinking lots of water and peeing constantly for the whole day before can push you below that threshold.

Quote :
"if they test for drugs, they should test for alcohol."

The legality is a non-trivial difference. But yeah the real issues should only be performance-related. If you get high at home and do a great job, it's not your boss's place to play cop. It's not like you're say... using the company's internet connection to hit on 12 year olds on myspace.

hahahaha i love coming back to this.

well i think i paniced more than i should have. I didn't have too much time to pound water b/c our office is a block away from a LabCorp. I think I should actually be ok. I haven't smoked marijuana in probably 6 months, but two weeks ago i hit a blunt a few times while I was camping so i'm not worried about that. My metabolism is still very fast.

and i haven't done any other stuff since last friday, and its an in and out chemical so i feel ok about it.

but god it just sucks period. I've been on a performance roll as of late and to lose the job over something like this would just plain blow.

that's no excuse

by that logic

EVERY activity that EVERY employee does outside of work should be scrutinized

gg big brother

if one's job performance suffers, then they get terminated

but employers shouldn't demand that employees "qualify" in ways irrelevant to their job performance

besides, the tests don't reveal anything logical

suppose someone tests positive

what does that mean?

that their job performance MUST BE somehow suffering, even if no suffering is evident?

it doesn't make any sense

how does a [illegal] drug test determine job performance? it doesn't.

all it says is

"hello, our company has a 1950's prejudicial attitude towards drug use"

because then with my luck, ill get sick and get questioned.

because if jeepin4x4 gets fired because his test came up positive, whats his excuse going to be?

i had a friend who lost 2 awesome jobs (for him at least) because of drug tests. yeah i guess they are random, but now he is stuck doing something that he probably doesnt like.

it means their employee is breaking the law. most people think that people who break laws cant be trusted (and dont bring up traffic laws...i will do that for you). you can get fired for getting a DUI and getting convicted of any number of small/major crimes. you can get fired for getting a speeding ticket in a company car. doing drugs is no different. if there was a blood test that could determine if you were stealing shit, they would probably give you that one too.

heres an idea: be a grownup and dont do drugs instead of bitching about a private company enforcing their internal policies.

hahaha im not bitching about shit, i knew the policies. but i also had the "this can't happen to me" outlook on things. especially when you have 200+ people out in the field (in 3 branches) on hourly pay who are in danger of comprimising safety and work and 5 people in the office (at this branch) and 3 get called for tests.

Wrong. If you contract with the government then they can request any field workers to be tested (at random or en masse) but your company is not required to randomly test on their own.

wow

you really are clueless (no offense)

you are aware that some laws are unjust, right?

the prohibition of drugs is one of the biggest mistakes our country has ever made

and it will come to an end, I can promise you that

you see,

while breaking some laws clearly show that you can't be trusted, or that you're are irresponsible

certain "crimes" are "committed" every day by completely responsible and trustworthy adults

illegal drug use is the most common of these "crimes"

there is absolutely nothing that a positive drug test can imply about an employee. nothing. period.

that's like trying to infer something based on their gender, age, race, etc

(that's right, one's decision to use drugs shouldn't be discriminated against, at all)

Quote :
"heres an idea: be a grownup and dont do drugs instead of bitching about a private company enforcing their internal policies"

holy fucking church lady

you are soooo cool

first of all, only "grownups" should be using drugs in the first place

what the fuck are you talking about?

you fucking tool

HEY GUYS!!! I'M COOL BECAUSE I DON'T DO DRUGS. BE LIKE ME. DRUGS ARE FOR KIDS!!
