Has anyone here ever flashed a MS28 xbox 360 disc drive? I have one but its not working for me and getting extremely annoying. I may just get a MS25 but I still need to read the original FW. I will offer 20$ to anyone that can do this for me. Thanks

What's it doing? IIRC, flashing a MS25 is almost identical to flashing an MS28, so if you can't get one you probably won't have much luck with the other.

The few times I did get the timing right the reading stopped at 0% then I have to go back into windows and delete the fw it "wrote" for me which is 0kb and it never gets passed 0%. My friend tried it on his system and had the same problem. I plan on working on it a little more but it would be a lot easier to work on a ms25 so I can actually get the reading up more than 5% of the time. I actually returned the xbox today and plan on getting a refurbished one with a samsung. Then if its a ms25 i'll hopefully be able to do it.

Why would you have to go into Windows to delete a file?

What are/were the exact steps you're taking? Also, if I were you, I'd just get a new 360 with a BenQ drive. They're easy to work on and probably significantly less likely to bite the dust on you.

well i have to go into windows to look in my usb stick because it sais it loaded my fw on there but its never there and doesn't allow me to go any further in iprep because the "fw" is already dumped. Can you tell if its a benq just from the opening of the tray? Is there only one type of benq? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info. Right now I have no xbox 360 but when i do get one if it ends up being a MS28 I'll probably be buying a MS25 but either way if I can get you to get the fw off my original drive I will pay you 20$, I'll contact you then.
As far as directions I read the xbox modding for dummies manual and I used the latest iprep and fw and the dos screen always showed up and the only problem I have is with it not reading. I read on another site that someone had that problem and ended up taking all the cables out of his computer and getting a shorter sata cable to reduce interference. I took all the extra cables out of my computer but have not gone to get a real short sata yet. I guess its a little too late for that now but my next 360 will definately be a samsung or benq.

In that case I have no idea. I've always flashed drives in DOS with diskettes and just mtkflash/dosflash.

Hmmm I also heard that a disk may work better. I may have to try that next time.

are you using a via chipset SATA controller to flash it? because the ms28 requires that.

Yea i have the sy-via-150r which my friend also used to flash his. I am currently waiting on a guy on eBay to check his refurbished systems for a samsung so if its ms28 again I may try a floppy disk.

I'm not sure what iprep is but I used xtremebootmaker to do all my firmware set up and didn't have a single hiccup. I still have all the stuff I used to flash if you need help.
