yeah, seen the picture/cover before, but have no idea who neutral milk hotel is or what In the Aeroplane Over the Sea entails.

attempt pretentious snobbery most definitely.

it's one of those albums that i'll sometimes put in my car cd player and listen to for like a week straight.

sometimes i'll listen to the first track like 5 times in a row before i get to the rest of the album. not that it's even the best song, but it never stops being good

^ ya, it's quality. jesse lacey (of brand new) has covered a lot of that album recently and done a decent job.

dude I'm a straight up metalhead and I knew that album cover immediately

instead of trying to pass off a well-known album as some sort of indie elitism, why don't you just tell people what it is so maybe one of the hundreds will actually check it out and enrich his/her life with it

didn't the guy go into hiding or something though b/c of too much attention?

THAT'S THE LAST THING HE WANTS.

but either way, breaking my streak of agreeing w/ thegoodlife3, that post does come off rather 'indie elite', even if you're three months late calling him out on it.

well considering it was released ten years ago, I don't think three months is too late to call him out

and my intent was not to call thegoodlife3 out

i just hate how people try to turn music, of all things, into a status symbol

yeah, maybe

maybe i just feel all >_> when they find someone who actually DOES know that band...and then they name another really obscure band

hmm, that sounds like something from StuffWhitePeopleLike

I don't know.

As an illustration: one song I've discovered recently that really "hit" me is "Something in the Way" by Nirvana. Now most who consider themselves musical "connoisseurs" would laugh at that. But that recording.. something in the way (no pun intended) Cobain delivers it is extremely moving. We all know Nirvana but sometimes something very familiar hits you from out of nowhere.

I'll also tell you that "V - Halmstad" by Shining is one of the most amazing albums ever written, but unfortunately few people will -- or ever will -- hear that album (though I encourage everyone to check it out).

I don't really know where I'm going with this, but my point is that music, beyond death, is the great equalizer and is not something with which to grant yourself some false sense of superiority
