i read a while back about a murder-for-hire scheme wherein the contractor would create a website to take bets as to the time of the victim's death and offer a payoff to the person whose guess was the closest--the idea being that if the payoff were high enough, then someone would step forward to do the killing and presumably that person would know the victim's time of death most accurately. any thoughts on the feasibility of such a scheme?

note: i'm not planning to kill anyone, nor do i endorse such a plan

i would find it hard to imagine that it could get the attention necessary for this to work w/o leading to getting caught.

1. a website would not work as it would get shutdown when people started using it
2. a similar scheme involving desperate people and large quantities of money might work.

the idea is that the person contracting the killing would not be culpable, regardless of whether the perpetrator is caught

another legal conundrum: suppose i'm trying to seduce a 12-year-old girl on the internet--but, the person i think is a 12-year-old girl turns out to be a 35-year-old sheriff's deputy. i'm charged with soliciting a child for immoral purposes or something similar, but in fact i never solicited a child for anything...
