i bought one for my parents (who can't get cable, don't want satellite, still record shows on VHS to view on their 32" tube television, which isn't even flat)...surely this is a $100 well spent?

specs:

- DVD recorder
- 160gb hard drive for DVR
- dual tuners (ATSC and NTSC)
- HDMI output
- USB/SD inputs

assuming i get one that works pretty well (the reviews are pretty bad, but some people love the unit and have had no problems save the remote), the only really really REALLY bad thing is that it only has 480p output (i cringed, too)...but parents don't even have an HDTV and with this, won't need a converter box come 2009

^ i gave my mom my old 1gb mp3 player from a few years back because she said she "might" use one if she had one...i'm pretty sure it's in a drawer somewhere collecting dust

honestly, the best gift i ever gave my mom were a pair of $15 croc knockoffs (airwalk) for working in the garden...bought them on a whim, not for a bday or christmas or anything...she loves them
