The Darjeeling Limited, Superbad, Knocked Up, Once, and No Country for Old Men are all towards the top of my list. I really haven't seen as much as I should, and I'm really looking forward to Margot at the Wedding and Juno before the year's over. Sunshine is almost surely my #1, although it's hard to compare it to Superbad.

I know there's some mainstream shit I'm not remembering, though...ARG.

I hereby nominate Eagle vs. Shark as the most disappointing movie of the year, and The Number 23 as the worst movie of the year (out of what I've seen). Transformers was the best popcorn flick, which only beats The Bourne Ultimatum because it didn't feature 2 hours of steadycam that made me want to vomit.

This is just a draft, I'm sure I'll have a for serious list once I've seen more stuff / been reminded of the shit I forgot.

Transformers wasn't even good as a popcorn movie. I hate hate hated it, and I even came in with low expectations.

Same for Live Free or Die Hard.

In no particular order, the movies I saw and enjoyed:

300
No Country for Old Men
Superbad
Bourne Ultimatum
Reign Over Me
Ocean's 13

Movies I have heard are very good that I intend to see:

Darjeeling Limited
3:10 to Yuma
American Gangster

Other comments:

Personally, I don't think Knocked Up really belongs on a list of greatest movies for the year. I'm probably just comparing it to Superbad, though, which was at least x7 funnier (based on the amount of funny it brought to myself and those around me).

All good but a bit over rated...
I think 3:10 is probably closest to making my list out of those movies, then American Gangster and the Darjeeling, I think Wes Anderson passed his prime and is trying a little too hard now... still enjoyable though

Superbad was alot better than knocked up.

Tromboner, Reign over me? Is that the sandler movie? I didnt care for that one.

Bourne was really good.

Spiderman was a letdown. IMO

^^I was considering putting a footnote on Reign about how some people might not love it quite so much. Personally I thought it was excellent. And I was surprised with how well Sandler did playing a serious role.

And I agree that Spiderman was a complete disappointment. The minimal action in the movie does not make up for the dance scene... not to mention the fact that it was such a long movie but seemed to have less action than either of the first two.

Spiderman 3 was almost as disappointing as the matrix sequels.

wtf

this movie had a high point of distribution of 301 screens

and never made a million dollars in a single weekend

and has only grossed 3 million dollars in the US

seriously

can someone explain why?

it has one of the biggest movie stars of this generation, and its about a well-known character from our history...

Oh, holy shit, how did I forget about that movie?

Adding Ocean's 13 to my previous post.

And, to ^... It's because it lacked hype. The first time I heard about it was on this board, and not once did I see any preview on TV. People aren't going to get out and see a movie if they don't know it exists.

I thought this was good, but too much like the others.

The plot was basically Oceans 11 + Oceans 12 = Oceans 13

Kind of like how Mission Impossible + MI:2 = MI:3

I just remember leaving and thinking, "that's basically the first two put together"

No point in watching 300 if you're just on a laptop... unless its huge with HD powahz or something. At the very least it should be seen on a big screen plasma.

No. It's a good movie, don't get me wrong, but it's a good movie in the way that The Aviator is a good movie.

It feels (or maybe it just is long), not much actually happens though it still manages to be relatively interesting, but it ends very well, so everyone comes out remembering how great the ending was, pulling up the rest of the movie.
