Figured I'd start a new one since the Magnetic Fields album did leak recently (it's in the Music of 2007 thread) and it comes out sometime in early January. I'm most looking forward to Final Fantasy's new album. His last album was my favorite of 2006 and he hasn't disappointed me yet.

What is everyone else looking forward to in 2008?

This thread has been informative because I wasn't aware a lot of the following bands had albums down the pipe. Based on what I've just read I'm looking forward to:

MBV: Not getting my hopes up for something groundbreaking though. They've all been too far removed from creating music for way too long. I'm sure I'll like it regardless.

Doves: I had no clue they were recording but they are consistent.

The Avalanches: I feel the same way about them as I did The Go! Team. They put out a flawless debut album but what are the chances their follow-up being nearly as brilliant? (I was underwhelmed by The Go! Team's sophomore effort)

Portishead: I have no doubt this will be an incredible album. Hopefully they incorporate new influences into their sound.

heres to another year of terrible pitchfork reviews. not thread worthy, and i avoid that site like the plague but i ran across a couple laughable reviews this evening that reminded me why that site is comically horrible.

it just seems like any review on there, whether i like the album or not the reviewer seems holier than thou and reviews it with obvious bias as opposed to attempting to be objective.

There's no such thing as an objective record review.

no there's not, once it's being written. But going into a review, the goal is to be unbiased and tackle the album from a fresh perspective.

^^i understand any review is going to have bias but theres a difference between being as objective as possible and being as biased as possible. and also writing poor reviews in general (altho i generally didnt pay attention to the authors which makes a huge differences)

The thing about Pitchfork reviews is that half the time there's only one paragraph that actually addresses the quality and merit of the record at hand.

But my main problem with Pitchfork is that I just don't care about Bradford Cox's Drama of the Week as much as they seem to think I should.

I stopped reading that site when they changed from "let's be a site dedicated to the genuinely quality underdogs of the music scene" to "here's a review of the new Animal Collective album that has the same reading as some fake ass, out of place review of the new Fergie single"

its funny because people always bitch about how pretentious and snotty pitchfork is so they form this pretentious and snotty attitude about the website that is comically ironic.

It's a website that reviews albums - it's a great fucking resource. You are not going to agree with every word that someone writes - just relax

i've been asking people for years to point me to an alternative source for reading music reviews and related news - i have yet to hear anything on that front
