Anyone know what a reasonable cost would be to install a 2.5'' susp. lift kit on my 1973 Jeep CJ5? All it really is is new leaf springs and new shocks. I figured about 4 hours to put it on. Anybody know? 12/14/2007 11:07:08 AM |

depending on what condition it has been kept in I would prepare yourself for getting new u-bolts for the leafs. I have seen more FUBARED and have to be cut then I have not. 12/16/2007 12:00:09 AM |

ummmm, i thought ubolts were pretty much always a thing to be replaced and assumed theyd be included in almost any kit. even if they come off clean theyre dirt cheap and its faster to hack them off 12/16/2007 12:30:47 AM |

Yeah, I've always heard replace them anytime they come off. Most kits come with them, and your old ones usually won't be long enough with the new blocks in there anyway. 12/16/2007 1:12:14 AM |

Yea I was going to do it myself, but I dont have a good place to do it nor the right tools.
The kit did indeed come with new u bolts
I got a quote from Tom's 4x4 in Lexington for $300 flat price. I think I am going to just take it to them since I know they will do it completely correct.

$300 is about shop "fair".
Real life fair....not even close.
Its a fully bolt on kit. I can have it done in an afternoon. Bring it by the shop here and we will get it done for beer. 12/16/2007 3:50:17 PM |

they are. i can't say i haven't reused u bolts, especially on 4wd stuff when it seems your dropping axles in/out frequently, but they really should be replaced each time or every few times at least.12/16/2007 6:25:02 PM |

Seriously, if you own a Jeep, you'd be best off dropping the coin on some tools and DIY. You're going to need those same tools to keep the motherfucker running later, anyway. Take up colter or slravene's offer. It's worth learning on for the experience alone. 12/16/2007 11:07:03 PM |
