That's a good question that I have wondered about. How does it work if not all of the grades have been reported?12/19/2007 8:43:14 AM |

So far I've skipped my undergraduate graduations (university and department) for both degrees, and my graduate (masters) degree.
My parents and girlfriend think I'm crazy, and tell me if I skip out on the PhD that I will really regret it. I don't want to go because I hate that hood thing they make you wear. 12/19/2007 8:50:48 AM |

yeah, I'd never hear the end of it if I didn't go, so I figure I'll just suck it up and deal with it. 12/19/2007 8:56:31 AM |

It's beyond me why after putting in years of hard work you wouldn't want to be recognized by your peers and closest friends...but whatever. 12/19/2007 9:16:32 AM |

peers - well, they kind of did the same thing friends - that's what the bar is for
a graduation ceremony is not required for this 'recognition' business. If you wanna recognize my hard work, buy me a congratulatory drink12/19/2007 9:22:12 AM |

I'd much rather get a phone call from a friend saying 'congrats' rather than having to go through the whole ceremony thing. I don't need to be recognized. To me, completing a degree is more of a personal accomplishment and I don't need to go to a ceremony to know that I've reached my goal.
I'm not saying anything bad about graduation ceremonies, just that they aren't really for me. 12/19/2007 9:25:19 AM |

I wish this thread was around back when I decided not to attend.
I was getting shit from every angle, even my professors.
Dr. La Vopa said he wouldn't come if I wasn't going. 12/19/2007 9:55:20 AM |

I have paid for all of my school, and I am going to every single ceremony there is! I think it is silly to not go. I mean, you've been there for 4, maybe 2, years - what is another hour or so? 12/19/2007 10:48:27 AM |

Congrats. But will you still come to TSB and argue with me about national security and so on?
PS (a word of advice to you all): You should attend these various ceremonies. Maybe they don't matter to you now, but one day they might--and you can't rewind life.
