haha I got a warning like that in Durham one time. I was sitting in BBQ Heaven of all places and the waitress comes over and hands me this little yellow sticky note. It pretty much said the same thing about gang initiations going on and something about not flashing your lights if you see someone driving with no headlights (classic target picking method, shoot the nice people who try to tell you your lights are off).

see this email is funny on tons of levels. one of them is that its from a family member, and anyone who knows me and my greensboro ties irl knows how hilarious that is. cause my cat is the DA, and dog is married to one ADA, and my parrot went to high school with another ADA.

its also funny because im going back through the people who forwarded it, and it actually was forwarded at some point by 2 email addresses owned by the city, and an address owned by a pretty big law firm

the other funny thing is that the DA let us down and waited till thursday to warn us!!1 unless, of course, it's next week.... which is basically kwanzaa, which basically makes me a racist because i thought it made them racists then i remembered that its not just black people in gangs

The headlight thing is a myth, and I haven't heard this before, but it's a myth in all likelihood as well. Latino gang initiations for boys involve jumping them in (SUR 13 and MS 13 have a group of guys beat you down for 13 seconds, for example) and the girls are sexed in when they do get involved. There are some issues to be aware of regarding gangs in Greensboro, though. In the first few weeks of December there were 7 or 8 murders in Greensboro, as attributed to a rise in gang violence. The city of Greensboro has put on a hiring freeze effective immediately to free up half a million dollars to increase the number of police detectives to combat the problem. The hiring freeze will give them 250k to do so, I don't know where the rest of the money is supposed to come from, but they are doing something about it at least.
