whatever the hell you wanna call them
I had a pair of North Face flip flops which I really liked, but they only lasted about 8 months this year
I wouldn't mind Rainbows, but... the biggest I've found are 13 and their 13 must be much smaller than everyone elses because I can't even get my foot in them (I normally wear a 13)
so... any ideas? the shitty ones from target last about a month for me... I went through 3 or 4 pairs last year over the summer

the few sites I've seen carry nothing over 13 or 13.5 either
are rainbows notoriously narrow?

men's are pretty wide, and they carry XXXL which is for a size 13 1/2 to 15. this is their company site

i have a pair of sperry sandals, a pair of rainbows, and a pair of reefs
the rainbows are far superior in comfort, durability, and attractiveness
the reefs look like knockoffs of rainbows... which they are.
the topsiders don't look a thing like the rainbows or the reefs... they look like boat shoes... which they are. they're comfortable and everything, but i like my rainbows better.] 12/21/2007 8:29:47 PM |

I wear a 14EE and recently gave up on Rainbow after a good 6-7 years. I tried a new brand on Amazon during a sale: Cobian. They are another surf-based leather sandal but at least half the price. I got 3 pairs on Amazon for about $15 per pair on sale, and they are great. Oh, and a size 13 is perfect for my 14EE foot (and they do offer a few 14's I think).

I had a pair of Sperry flipflops; quickest footwear I've ever worn through. Probably lasted only 3 months.
After that I caved and jumped on the Rainbow train. Far superior so far, have lasted twice as long, no signs of seious wear as experienced with the Sperry's.

rainbow sandals are good for flip flops
for the outdoor sandals, you can't beat a pair of Chacos. They're awesome, especially if you're in and around water like you are. Durable material, no-slip vibram bottoms, and you can wash them in the washer if they get dirty/smelly. 12/22/2007 12:39:41 AM |

i would always go with rainbows first, but reef is a good second choice. plus they make sandals with built in bottle openers (on the bottom), as well as flasks and storage (the back of the heel slides out).
outdoor sandals, definitely chacos. 12/22/2007 2:22:04 AM |

I wear a 14 and was able to find a pair of black rainbows that fit... I think they were just XXL...
they were a PITA to find though and I found them at a PAC-SUN outlet... My first pair were brown and lasted 3 years before I wore all the way through the heal (what they define as "lifetime" is wearing completely through a layer)
I looked for the double padding ones and couldn't find those in larger sizes though... but I bought mine 2 years ago now (so I'm on my 5th year of rainbows) and love them.
they do require a pretty rough solid week to break in though, I hadn't ever worn sandels that went between my toes so my foot had to toughen up for that but once through the breakin period of the first pair they were heaven on my feet and a comfy home for my heel 10months of the year 12/22/2007 6:14:12 AM |

found the xxxl rainbows at the kiosk at the mall
they fit fine
I'm also gonna check out those cobians, never hurts to have extras
I've found Reefs that fit me and feel good, but I've never found any styles that I really like
these should last longer because the main reason my last ones died was because I'd wear them in the water or on the boat way too often , but now I've got crocs for fishing and water stuff

I'm gonna hijack this to ask about rainbows, because I got a pair and they rubbed hardcore on the tops of my feet. I could never wear them, and that makes me sad - are they smaller or more narrow than most other shoes? My reefs are huge in comparison 12/22/2007 11:06:08 PM |

i had a pair of reefs i got in high school that lasted about 7 years. i highly recommend them. they were incredibly comfortable. and i also think they come in 13/14. i don't think they make the specific style i had anymore (woven thong deal and nonleather). 12/23/2007 4:25:52 AM |

i feel like the women's are really narrow, so i buy the men's rainbows (only works if you like the thick strap and not the thin, those are only women's i think) -- my feet aren't particularly wide but they're flat, i wear the men's because i prefer the extra room
also make sure you give them a couple of wears for the straps to stretch out, it can feel pretty tight at first...12/23/2007 5:37:16 PM |

i think rainbows have changed a bit since they first came out. i have a pair of original ones i got in hawaii back when i was 15 or 16 and they still haven't really been that worn out, then i got a new pair of black ones this summer, and those ones look like ive had them longer then the first pair.
they are def way more narrow then regular flip flops, but once you wear em a while they break in and are soooo comfortable. 12/23/2007 8:05:15 PM |

Take a look at a pair of Sanuk's.
I ordered mine online from Zappos.com in the size I usually wear (12) and they fit perfectly. Not super cheap, and they seem built pretty well. I got a pair of little joes and they are the most comfortable sandal type thing I've ever worn. I didn't have any worry about a wear-in period since they're a thong type sandal, didn't get any blisters between my toes or anything. The fabric they use on the sandals seems to be pretty forgiving in that regard. I'm not sure where the fuck you find a pair of those to try on/size match in the area though, I just tried them because somebody said they were a good alternative to rainbows.
Wanted a comfy pair of sandals but didn't want to have EXACTLY what everybody else had, haha. 12/24/2007 2:14:57 AM |
