Just got a bottle of absinthe for xmas. The brand is called Lucid - http://www.drinklucid.com - just wondering if anyone has tried some. It's about $60/bottle, wondering if I should save it for a special occasion or just crack it open, enjoy it now, and buy some more. 12/25/2007 10:13:46 AM |

Sell the $60 absinthe for $50, but mescaline on wakeforest, just past kanki/redlobster/food dog, see Sanat/jesus for real on christmas. Or just buy half a bottle of vic10s... Whichever part of the abinsthe you like best. 12/25/2007 12:39:49 PM |

Haha, it's so crazy how expensive it is here in the US. I have a nice bottle of French Absinthe that only cost $20 but I bought it from St. Martin. It's nothing special like a lot of people make it out to be tho, just really potent licorice tasting alcohol. 12/26/2007 7:47:52 AM |

its a type of absinthe, but it doesn't have wormwood in it (which is the trippy shit). Even most European countries are banning the real deal shit, since there is a direct link to serious health problems. It tastes like a weird, nasty licorice and it'll get you drunk in a hurry, but it'll also knock you out quick.
fyi, you can buy the materials for making your own batch at most any brew shop and liquor store, its pretty easy to do.

^^read up on that stuff, and it looks to be some special swiss recipe, but the real deal...said they just lifted a 100 year ban on wormwood a few years ago.
"when prepared with cold water will louche" whatever that means.
are there not any problems shipping that to the US? i know you can get/make absinthe here, but none with wormwood. 12/26/2007 2:52:28 PM |

i had some about 10 months ago at a party...a friend of mine had brought a bottle back from either mexico or costa rica or something...it was red though, not green...we had been drinking beer and liquor all night anyway and i only took one shot of absinthe, but what i really remember was you know how when you take a shot of liquor it burns your mouth for a few seconds...well the absinthe burns your throat for a few MINUTES...other than that i do recall getting a little more than just an alcohol buzz
also the reason van gogh went crazy is because instead of using green food coloring to color it like they do nowadays, back in the day they used copper sulfate for the green color...you do not want to ingest copper sulfate
also when we drank it we didnt properly cool it over ice like you're supposed to, we just had straight shots in dirty glasses] 12/27/2007 10:17:54 AM |

very true so the Absinthe sold in the US is not REAL Absinthe. I've had some of the REAL Absinthe with Worm Wood and it was a wild time

placebo is an interesting thing
Quote : | "According to the Treasury Department's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, U.S. law prohibits absinthe that contains over 10 parts per million of thujone, the active ingredient in wormwood. Wormwood is the plant that makes absinthe absinthe -- with its mythic tales of hallucination and belle epoque debauchery. But here's the thing: Just about all absinthe has less than 10 parts per million of thujone and perhaps always did. The ban existed mainly because there had been no way to prove otherwise. Until now. In fact, New Orleans-born chemist Ted Breaux, creator of the new Lucid absinthe, has used modern technology to test bottles from the late 19th century to show that properly made absinthe contained very little thujone. FYI, Grandmaster, that's £94, not $94. I'm not sure what the exchange rate is right now, but last time I checked it was about £1 = $2 so you'll probably be spending a little more than that.
A few years ago some friends went to Mexico for Spring Break and got a bottle of Absinthe. I didn't have any, but they drank a whole bottle. They mostly just got drunk like they would with any alcohol, but one thing that did stand out, both of them got this giant vein popping out on their forehead. I lolled. 12/28/2007 9:47:41 AM |

I had an Absinthe party 3 weeks ago. We had 1 bottle that I bought in DC, and 3 bottles from Prague. The party was awesome!
btw - you aren't going to trip for anything, you just get drunk. You will only "dance with the ferry" if you use a wormwood kit and add more to the bottle.

Yeah Wraith exchange rate is about 1:2. A buddy of mine went in with me and picked up a bottle as well so I could have a break on shipping.
Overall it's about 93.92/ea shipped for two bottles of Charlotte or about 108.xx shipped for one bottle.
I've since come to the conclusion (by intarweb readings only atm) drinking good quality absinthe is just about getting a very clean headed buzz going before you start your night. It's almost as if you'd be thinking "Holy shit I'm drunk but lets do some roket syunce. Or even better...Drive to so and so's!" Seems a bit like potential for disaster if people were shifaced from absinthe but not sloppy enough to avoid driving, BAC could bite you in the ass. 12/28/2007 4:31:01 PM |

Absinthe tastes like Jager and crushed up advil. Its like a bitter-er version. Whenever I drank it (cruise ships, the occasional import from a friend) I just got drunk but with more blurrieness if that makes sense. Like the colors melt together a little bit, not like acid or shrooms or anything, but noticeable. 1/1/2008 1:23:09 PM |

i only found out, because we used these styrofoam cups with lids and straws in the kitchen... i grabbed her drink once by accident took a sip and was like:
