im not sure if you are trying to set up a comeback to my answer or what, but thats not really what i was getting at. it was a lot more simple. just something i've noticed. girls that don't drink a lot and "get into the wine" occasionally seem to be more fun to hang out with than girls who keep a case of budlight on hand. nothing against bud light or alcoholics.

with knowing very little i'd argue you have a completely different outlook you just haven't thought about it enough to compare now to the past

also i would like to state that i'm definitely not trying to imply anything about wine and culture or status or anything like that. i dont know anything about wine... except that it should come in a bottle with a cork

it also comes in juiceboxes. and now a lot of wine bottles are screw off because there is a shortage of cork or something? i don't know if that is true...that is just what i heard

i guess if you wanna get technical, omar, my outlook is different because i actually have an outlook now. as far as principles and shit like that, im pretty much the same. just care more about tomorrows than i used to. and according to the feedback i get on tww, that makes me suck now. ha ha

^see, i think it should have a cork. and no box.

I never really drank wine outside of the stupid boxed wine I'd split with one of my college roommates before State bball games so we could get drunk real quick without having to down liquor...

but since I moved 30 minutes from Napa/Sonoma Valley I love wine... and I wouldn't dream of drinking any without a cork now. the "wine drinking culture" is certainly a little different than college binge drinking though...

But I agree with this thread for the most part... and I think I understand it.

i'd watch out on the cork statement though as some decent wines are seriously switching to screw offs (yes kindof trashy) and synthetic corks

most of my friends switched to wine post college

One of the big winery's I visited with my sister when she was up here last week... I want to say Robert Mondavi... had the twist offs... I don't think there is any trend to switching from corks though... not that I've noticed at least... but I'm no wine expert, I just like to take trips up there from time to time...

The way I look at it, is if Two Buck Chuck can still have cork then why can't all the others...

^ hahaha ok good point. maybe there isn't a trend. but some decent wines do come with twist offs. but i'm not gonna lie, it does take away from the experience. it isn't really sexy to twist off the top to a bottle of wine.

there is a small movement moving towards twist-offs as opposed to corks because people that buy $100+ bottles of wine don't want to have to worry about the cork going bad - with a twist off it's not a worry

I don't know if anyone said it yet... but there's no shortage of cork. You can scrape the cork off a tree and it grow back. This shit renews itself quickly, which is why lots of "green" houses have cork floors

It takes a couple years to put aside the alcohol part of wine and enjoy all the other flavors in there.

I agree. Being in a gut bag in a box loses it crispness too quickly so the wine cannot age properly. Juicebox wine is not supposed to be around too long that is why I can see someone taking 5 of them to a football game bc you know you are not saving any of that junk for later. I also see that calling it juicebox wine is somewhat CLEVAR bc a juicebox with Hi-C in it does not last more than 30 seconds with me.

Last new years eve I was with a bunch of NoVa upper-middle class wanna-bes in a 2500 sq ft home drinking wine and listening to them tell office stories. Sitting there with my attractive but pretentious date, I knew I'd fucked up somewhere.

FWIW, most North Carolina vintners are saying that 2007 is going to be a banner year, so stock up on the 2007s when they come out.

we were looking at wine one night in food lion (clearly a nonpretentious wine venture) and found the juiceboxes next to the big boxed wine. i thought they were funny. and funny to take to a football game. i think i got them for one of the noon games cause i thought it'd go down easier than beeeers (wine and mimosas mmmm). but yes, it is still box wine so it isn't very good. BUT it is a juicebox so that adds cool points.

clearly i'd enjoy nonboxed wine better i won some for christmas in our white elephant gift exchange gooo me.

i am also curious about NC wines. there is a winery somewhere around cary? i know they have them in the mtns as well, but off of airport blvd over near morrisville theres a sign for a vineyard.

Chatham Hill or something like that... I always wondered what that was when I was going to RDU... it's like right off of Aviation Pkwy... I'm sure it's just a manufacturing type place... I don't see how there could be a vineyard there.

Found it...
