Well, that time has come...

If it were up to me, I'd be on a plane to vegas, but it's not, so we need to find a place to do this around here.

Does anyone know of an ALTERNATIVE site for a reception?? (and wedding)

Looking for a place that is cheap and I can bring my own booze, and inside. Any ideas?

i know that http://www.trianglemls.com/111place/ will let you bring your own booze and caterer as long as they are on the approved list. We brought our own booze and bartenders, and it's close to the embassy suites which proved to be invaluable.

I've also been to receptions at the Wake County Shrine Club http://www.wakecountyshrineclub.org/ not too sure if you can bring in your own booze, but i'm pretty sure you can't.

You can also try http://www.thestateclub.org as you can have it indoors or in a huge outdoor tent that connects to the facility.

You'll be able to find a lot of ideas at the http://www.foreverbridal.net/bridal-show/expo.htm bridal shows.

wedding show next week at the fairgrounds.

Take her.....You will get so much info. on venues and other crap. It is almost worth paying the 6 dollars for the caterer samples of food. Crab cakes, wine, cheese, fondues, etc all you can eat. I cant take my fiance anywhere.

+PLus she will be very happy.

WE just got married at my mom's house in Benson, it's an old house and had lotsa space. it helped that my step-dad sells wine for a living so the alcohol was cheap.

If you want to go out that far I know it'd be reasonable send me a PM if interested.
also check out the preston-woodall house in benson. they only do weddings although not sure how expensive they are... it is really beautiful though and can do both there.

anybody ever rent or heard of renting out an airplane hangar for such an occasion?

imagine a place like this, hosting a massive throwdown:

it would be neat to have a couple of smal planes parked inside along the walls.

i think that would be fly

The shrine club is where I had my wedding reception, and it was fucking awesome.

For the booze, they require you buy the kegs from them, but you bring your own liquor. One big attraction for us was that they have a built in bar, not just a guy behind a fold out table like so many other halls have.

Thier layout was really nice, and we really enjoyed it.

My reception was at the faculty club off of Hillsborough.

I don't believe you can bring your own booze, but I remember them being willing to order what you want if they didn't already have it.

The price (location, set-up and break-down, catering, alcohol, bartender) and hassle-freeness was unbeatable.

^ now called The University Club btw.... we have our x-mas party there every year... it's ok for no frills, although the by the drink prices are a little nuts, I enjoyed being able to provide our own beer/liquor/wine at ours.

Do some looking around there are many many places around here for receptions. But all in all the bridal show is a great one stop shop.

Not sure the answers to your questions about the shrine club, my wife handled all of the planning, and her parents footed the bill.

All i do know is that i really enjoyed everything they did, they were very professional all night and even let some of the guys go into the private shrine club lounge to watch some game that was on tv that night.

When I was back home for a wedding in October, they had the reception in the lobby area of an office building at Regency Park (coincidentally the same place that I had my senior prom). It was a great place for a reception: large open area for people to mill around, built in bar area, and a huge outdoor balcony overlooking the lake. I believe that the Groom's family did all of the decorating and cleaning the day after the reception and the groom's brothers bought all of the alcohol and paid a few friends to bartend for the night. Im pretty sure that it was far cheaper than most other places and easily as nice or nicer.

Mauritius is a very civilized place, seeing as how your ancestors and their cousins civilized it 3 times over, over a period exceeding 3 centuries, my dear Smath74.

Keep the places coming, please...

I'm having trouble finding a place in the Cary/Raleigh area that accomodates more than 100 people and is not too expensive.

I'd like to have the wedding and reception outdoors, but there needs to be a building big enough to accomodate everyone in case of rain.

what are you looking for in terms of a reception? buffet, seated meal, dance floor, and range of people, I know you said more than 100, but less than 150?

I highly recommend getting a wedding planner, or advisor, as they know of all the places and have all the contacts. Ours was INVALUABLE in the planning and execution phases of the wedding, and the day couldn't have been better.

I'm estimating between 130-150

I'm hoping to keep things pretty simple. An afternoon reception with light hors devours, champagne toast, maybe beer and wine.

Bluegrass band, music and dancing are optional.

Top of my list right now is the Page Walker Hotel in Cary, but their limit is 99. I'm trying cut my list to accommodate that, but it seems unlikely

I talked to a lady at the wedding show this weekend about doing "day of" coordinating, which I think will be extremely helpful. http://www.whitediamondweddings.com

The State Club will probably make you become members to hold an event there. And since they book up fast you would have to a be a member the entire time you wait for your event.

My parents had to be members to hold a client event there. Basically every month they charge you a fee but you could use that amount towards eating a meal there every month.

We had our wedding reception at the N.C. Museum of Art. Though with the construction now it is not a very pretty place on the drive in. However when eating at the restaurant downstairs you can't tell that any construction is taking place. Maybe they can cut you a deal.

You have to be a member or be sponsored by a member. There is a monthly membership fee, and a food/beverage minimum each month. If you do not spend the food/beverage minimum then you are charged automatically. If you come in and have dinner, you'll spend more than the minimum and will just have the monthly membership fee and whatever meals you ate.

I know they have filled up very very fast for Saturdays. They are however pretty reasonably priced, but to the best of my knowledge you cannot bring your own anything. I may be mistaken but you can contact Wendy Dorman for more information.

We are doing the Doubletree in Durham. It is a Hilton brand hotel. Has a nice pond out back, ceremony and reception on site.

[Edited on January 12, 2008 at 2:10 AM. Reason : not good for alcohol though, charge for liquor per shot..eg $150+ a bottle, and 450 a keg...insane]

We had our reception at the Cotton Company ( http://thecottoncompany.net/event_gallery.asp ) in downtown Wake Forest. Apparently a lot of people do their wedding there too. Its rustic (old bricks with worn paint and exposed timbers) but it looks great when done up. Also, they let us bring our own beer/win... though I think its more the caterer you choose and we had Catering Works ( http://www.cateringworks.com )

Invited 140, got 100. You could easily have a lot more (but our didn't look empty or anything, space is very forgiving). Everyone at the reception kept saying how much they liked the way the place looked... not your typical banquet hall and a bit more style. My wife enjoyed having the changing room so she could comfortably switch to a runaway dress (or whatever they call it).
