i'm having second thoughts of spending $1700 on a laptop,
it wont make the internet better.
will it make tww more interesting? unless im gaming on it i just dont see why i should get this.
im not gonna use it for anything special, should i back out of this?

Unless you have a real use for it that requires you spend that much, $1700 is overkill.

Rule #1 of being a nerd.

1) Buy overpriced electronics.
2) Justify later.

actually i had a lot of fun customising my new dell m1330, it felt great,
other than actually opening the box and showing it off i think ive had all the fun i can have with it
now i htink i'll just cancel the order then buy a 500 laptop with a webcam.

i recommend it, just get a dell preferred account, customize the most expensive laptop, then cancell it, its fun.

Buy a $500 laptop, keep $100 for yourself, and send me the remaining $1100 to come fuck you in the ass.

It'll be basically the same experience.

There's no sense in overpaying for a laptop unless it's a Mac.

This way at least you have a support group of people who are in exactly the same boat.

thats a rediculous price! I paid like 700 for mine after the 200 in rebates (plus it was tax free) and I friggin love it!

(I owe less than that to pay off my truck loan)

its a dell XPS M1330
the highlights are
fast Dual core processor
3gb of ram
slot loading dvd burner
LED backlit display, out of this world, at least it sounds like it
4 year warranty with accidental damage coverage
extra battery, red cover, wifi mouse, all the trimmings

im still undecided now

sounds pretty sweet

i'd love an LED backlit screen

if i were you, i'd wait a few months for cheaper SSD drives and a penryn processor (cooler and more energy efficient = good for laptops)

I spent 750 on mine 2 years ago and it works fine. I don't know what you need to do that justifies 1700.

i was excited about SSD drives but after looking at reviews they dont seem to be any better than wester digital raptor drives,
also the quad cores seem to be pretty cool

anyways im gonna get the laptop, and play with it for a few days then sell it to my dad who needs one

i spent about 1100 on mine over the summer. everything that i could have added was slight overkill i felt like. none of the upgrades were really justified. i got one of those dell 1420s. like it.

I'd like a powerful, but smaller macbook

No, never.

You could buy a $600 laptop AND build an $1100 desktop that would blow any $1700 laptop out of the water for gaming.

dang... I spent almost $3K on my laptop... and I LOVE it. Never lets me down, built sturdy. It cost so much cause I needed the 1600x1200 native resolution and Fire series graphics for business.

The upgraded screen, graphics, and 4 (maybe 5) year warranty set me back almost another $1000.

<3 it though.

Call dell up and tell them you want to return it. They'll offer you a pretty decent offer like $300 off or something if you keep it. If they don't, then return it.

If people buy consoles for $400-600, then it justifies buying a laptop for $1700.

and also, $1700 for a mac is not worth it, but $1700 for anything else, and it is.

macs: don't do it.

why so anti-Mac?

I'm not thinking $1700
I'm hoping for more like $1000

I want it to be small

1. Macs are notoriously overpriced
2. they don't play vidya games
3. one mouse button. WTF?!

other than that they are fine.

$1700 is nothing

i spent $2600 on my macbook pro

^1. you get what you pay for
2. yes they do, they can also run windows
3. the macbooks are set up so if you have 2 fingers on the mousepad while clicking, it's a right click. i like it much better than having a right click button

Nope. I work for Dell and it's usually 15% of what you paid, especially if it's been used.

Almost a year ago, I had a customer who purchased a desktop then changed her mind and wanted a notebook. She signed for the desktop when it came with instructions to immediately send it back. She never even opened the box and Customer Service tried to hit her with a $300 re-stocking fee. It took awhile but I was able to remove the fee being she was going to buy a notebook (which was going to cost her more anyways)
