It's tough. talking to people you realise how much smarter you are compared to the rest of the country only because you grew up in NYC. it's an arrogance, but well deserved. I can't explain it. I'm surmising another date. don't be offended. 1/6/2008 2:55:46 AM |

its not that we're self-righteous. it's just we're aware that the state of the WORLD evolves around NYC. it's like THE CITY on a global scale. and besides if NYC didn't exist where would the world be in terms of good taste. especially in fashion, music, art, etc. the only thing the rest of the country has us beat in is Conservatism and I'm will to trade that in. 1/6/2008 4:33:24 AM |

NYC has around 53%, but Wake county isn't far behind with 46.2%.

This thread is pretty fucking stupid. Assuming that Southerners hate Northerners because Northerners are smarter... wow
Black people must hate white people because white people are better at working (and as such, get better employment)
fuck me, there's so much wrong with this argument 1/6/2008 10:59:12 AM |

Honestly, I feel the same way. I was born in Queens but grew up right outside in CT... I know I shouldn't feel that way because it's super arrogant but I honestly believe it's the truth...
^^ those really don't have much meaning given the huge difference in sample size. It's pretty damn impressive that 53% of New Yorker's have a bachelors degree IMO if those numbers are what I think they are (I skimmed them) given there are 8M+ in the city...

I don't agree about the people being smarter part... there are way too many people in NYC for that to be true.. but I absolutely consider it the center of the country (and quite possibly the world).
Dispute it. What city is more well known and talked about? I mean, for fucks sake, they tape New Years eve shows and replay them at 3am EST even here on the west coast.

uhmmm. i don't believe every southerner is stupid, but percentage wise there aren't very many "smart" people outside of NYC. NYC is center of the elite in America. the elite in just about everything. you have to be familiar with NYC if you're truely on the realm of universal intelligence. there's no way around it.

what cities greater ? name one. very had to do. only city that could rivel it is .............. don't know. maybe Paris (been there and it's a French NYC) . . . nyc trumps it. NYC is an island connected by bridges, etc. it's the most amazing city built. ellis island, donald trump, the architecture, film, broadway, the new WORLD TRADE CENTER that's coming, empire state building, spanish chicks, hiphop, madison square garden.
i mean really. NOTHINGS GREATER THAN NYC.1/6/2008 11:25:47 AM |

Gotta place on 92nd thats been in the fam for years, Aunt lives on West end ave.
I wanted to live there for a while and go to Law school but then i realized that it would probably lose its little quirks to me. Like every time i visit my aunt, i have a little routine of places i really look forward to going to. . if i lived there, those places would lose their specialness i think.
I dont know, i thought Rome was pretty awesome. And the buildings in some european cities are far superior to most in NYC. Tokyo tops my personal list though, its the only city so far that literally took my breath away when i first saw it at night.

Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Paris all beat out New York for various reasons.
Hell, San Francisco is a better and "smarter" city thank New York.

i think we have to question how we define "smarter". i mean being classified as smart in NC is ridiculous when you factor how far behind the educational system is there. and even just culturally. so yeah NC has "smart" people, but culturally they aren't defined and they have no idea of the global scale. growing up in NYC you're dealing with different cultures constantly. it in turns makes you a brighter person. 1/6/2008 12:10:26 PM |

^ can't deny that. that's why i went to college in NC. it's cheaper and its relaxation. its like mingling with the common folk for 4 yrs. there's nothing wrong with that. in order to diagnose the problem in America you have to see it head on. living in NC i see why American sucks sometimes. it's all the land mass outside of NYC that lessens America's public opinion in NYC and in the world. 1/6/2008 12:25:28 PM |
