Objectively, it has imitation 5.1 Dolby Surround sound. A humble 1.3MP integrated camera. And an epilepsy inducing flashing LENOVO logo on the top cover.

To some consumers, these are pluses.

I will use headphones. I will use the camera only for the facial scan login capability. And you cannot see the flashing logo during use.

I want it because I badly need a new laptop but also want to game occasionally, and Lenovo has finally come through with a solution. The hot switching overclock feature could be nifty.

So, you pay the extra for 5.1 surround and use headphones. Then use a primative facial scan technology that's atleast 10 years old (http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2008/01/lenovos-new-fac.html). And you don't mind annoying the person sitting across from you. I guess everyone has their own tastes.

P.S.
Have you guys noticed that the arrow keys are on the right side of the keyboard? Useful for the leftys I guess. Besides, using arrow keys for gaming are about as old as Frogger. You can't reload and duck from flying bullets at the same time. Nor can you press CTRL and drag to select your horde of armies. Great idea, but lacking in practicallity.

Maybe I'm dyslexic, but aren't arrow keys normally on the right side of the keyboard? Perhaps the keyboard I'm using now is strange.

Yeah I'd say the same basic thing about pretty much any 17" laptop. Also, if you read the blog post you linked to, the guy really likes and vouches for the facial recognition software. The only thing he had a problem with was them calling it "new." Having it included in the base software for the laptop is a new thing though, unless you can tell me of any other laptops that come with built in cameras AND facial recognition software in the base models.

It's funny to follow "objectively" with such subjective and colorful descriptions. This laptop is no more retarded than any other 17" laptop on the market. Hell, it's actually lighter than some of the beasts it's competing with.

All my arrow keys are on the right too... it's just that I don't use them for gaming. And to put "gaming" arrows on a computer is soooo 1980's. Who the heck uses the arrows on the right for gaming? I thought everyone has since upgraded to WASD?

Like I said, great idea, but not so practical. Probably useful for navigating spreadsheets! Of course, that defeats the purpose of purchasing a gaming machine.

On a positive note, I do like the U110 Ideapad.

Nothing new. But of course, you'd have had to live in Asia to know that...

^ True. Looks like they dropped the ball in several design points if they were looking to breach the gamer market. (though the price is pretty nice)

Still, I only really want to play my old school collection, which would hardly cause this box to break a sweat (Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, Final Fantasy 7 & 8, Far Cry, etc.)
