NCSU is an old campus with steam heat... there is a good possibility the pneumatic valves no longer work in the old buildings thus they are rigged open.

I walked into Daniels one Monday morning for E115 in December last year and it was literally about 95 degrees in there. This was after a night of binge drinking and I was super hungover. I'm talking about I was still having trouble walking on the way to class (it was an 8:05 am class). That shit sucked. We had to take a break because it was so hot in there. I almost died. That might have been the worst experience of my life.

You can walk to each building on campus through the steam tunnels under ground.

They're about 6' in diameter in the main tunnels and they get smaller towards the buildings.

Surprisingly enough, they're usually not that warm in the winter and fairly cool in the summer.
