I was still under the impression that SLI/XFIRE was only worth the money in high end setups


and a pair of mid-range cards will still get pwned by a single top end one.

^Actually that would be the case a year or 2 ago, but that doesn't apply anymore.

Actually it's the opposite. 2 8800gt's (250$) will beat a 8800gtx (550$) by FAR.

For example according to tom's hardware the BEST choice is to get 2x 8800gt in sli. An 8800gt cost around 250-270$ and performs close to the 8800gtx for 500-600$. So you could get 2 8800gt's for the price of ONE 8800gtx, and you'll get much better performance with 2 8800gt's than with a single 8800gtx.

Also Nvidia just came out with tri-sli for use with 3 gtxs or 3 ultras. So that would be the best bet for performance. The scalling with tri-sli seems to be really good according to recent benches.

^yeah. Wait until the new nvidia 9xxx series comes out before investing. Shouldn't be too long now.
