I'm a grad student looking for something fun to take this semester. How is this class? Who are some good instructors? 1/10/2008 8:23:22 PM |

It's an enjoyable class (costs 60 bucks, but I thought it was worth it). I think my instructor's last name was Scott. 1/10/2008 8:51:54 PM |

It was fun, no need to change clothes, just show up and bowl for an hour. You do have to pay as ^ mentioned but I look at it like buying a book (there is a book but you don't need it). I can't remember the name of the instructor, he was an older guy, kind of short. He was nice though and pretty laid back. But I don't think it could be bad with any instructor.
v agreed. It's not impossible, but what do you really have to gain from taking it for a grade?

Take it credit only. It's almost impossible to get an A in the class (you'll have to average around 180) 1/10/2008 10:31:24 PM |

i took it last semester w/ evans and got a S the instructors are gonna be boring whoever it is. if you actually care about your grade, then take it as S/U. no exams, just your bowling score, and the final exam is like 10 fill in the blank, a billion T/F, you gotta score 3 games, and do like 5 of those pin adjustments he's always talking about. ...so you might wanna read the book the day before the final as well 1/10/2008 10:56:03 PM |

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm going to try to audit the class since I don't need the credit or the Gen. Ed. requirement. I'm taking it with Kidd.
Any other input? 1/10/2008 11:02:55 PM |

I had it with scott in 03. great class. Definitely take it for credit only unless you're really good. Although when I took it, we kept our own score cards so it was pretty easy to boost your score if you wanted. The lanes there suck though. 1/10/2008 11:13:31 PM |

It'd be sweet if they let you drink at the bowling alley during class.

^good luck with that. In other notes, the cafeteria inside the bowling alley is awesome. Best meat loaf I've ever had. 1/10/2008 11:27:38 PM |

KIDD. he is the man. great class, tons of fun, and he knows what he's talking about.
I drank in a few classes, but some fucking undergrad snitched on me like a little bitch. (I was like 25 at the time and drank at el rodeo before class all the time anyway.)
took it for audit since my tuition was being paid for at the time. 1/11/2008 9:49:35 AM |

best part of being a graduate student one FREE audit every semester.
I'm just going to start taking a P.E every semester (since we register first and can get the good one's). 1/19/2008 10:25:56 AM |

same here. Kidd is a good teacher
but def take credit only, unless you can learn to bowl a new way that you're not used to and then within the space of about 8 weeks build and maintain a 180 average or better
the 180 requirement is dept. policy, so changing teachers wont matter. i dont know who in that class gets an A. certainly wasnt anyone i bowled with.

I think I started the class bowling a 100 and ended up averaging 160's. I'm way too inconsistent when I go bowling though. I'll bowl 150-180 one game and then barely break 100 the next. 1/31/2008 1:46:08 PM |

Really? The class only teaches straight bowling, right? Because it would be really hard to get an average much above that without hooking. They should have an advanced class where they teach that. But then I guess you'd have to get a 275 or something ridiculous to get an A.2/6/2008 6:42:30 PM |

My teacher tried to teach us how to hook the ball... I can't do it though so i just throw that bish straight. I am getting better... kindof 2/6/2008 10:40:36 PM |

We could hook the ball but I always just threw it in the gutter when i tried to do it. He didn't want us to curve the ball though. 2/6/2008 11:32:02 PM |
Skwinkle burritotomyface 19447 Posts user info edit post |
^ What? Hooking is curving, or at least if I'm understanding you correctly it is. I can't blame them for not teaching it in the regular class (on a large scale at least - everyone I know who's taken it said their teacher never tried teaching it) because it's hard with alley balls.
I kind of wish I'd taken this class. Instead I just had someone teach me who had taken it, and I guess that worked OK. 2/7/2008 9:58:40 AM |
