30 minutes to get them ready for <10 minutes of cook time and then they have to cool for 2 hours

Yeah if you are cooking like 3 burgers then Charcoal is definately not the way to go.
Or just use a little bit and cook the burgers longer. 1/13/2008 12:18:38 AM |

If you do some other prep while the charcoal's turning white, you won't be so concerned about the time. Never watch the charcoal--if you do, it just takes longer.
And remember, always use quality Kingsford Charcoal. Accept no substitutes.

doesnt kind of depend on what kind of taste you want from the food? 1/13/2008 1:18:09 AM |

^ If you're asking me, always use Kingsford Charcoal. If you want some smoked-wood flavor, add moistened hickory or apple or a number of other woods, depending on the flavor you want.
I never, ever use gas grills. In my opinion, charcoal grills consistently deliver superior taste to gas grills.

if you close the grates on the bottom, put the lid on, and close the lid grates, the charcoal will burn out and save for later use
you'll have to add more of course, but it can be done
