I am about to my breaking point. We haven't been this much of a joke in basketball since Les Robinson. Its bad when Carolina Alum's at work aren't ragging you anymore. I think we win maybe 4 conference games tops. Georgia Tech's guard play is about like ours and Boston College is terrible, so we should win those games at home. Its gotten to be where I don't care that NC State is on TV in football and basketball. I guess its just losing gets old after a while. I will tell you this I will never get my hopes up about any NC State team again.

This team has 0 chemistry and that reflects on the coaching staff and the players equally.

The thing with the Cubs though is they can buy talent to try and right the ship. Not saying their fans don't suffer because I know a bunch of Cubs fans that suffer, hell I used to suffer with the Red Sox before they won it all in '04 but the difference was the the Sox atleast showed up and competed. This basketball season our team doesn't even seem to compete and shows little heart

NC State can't do that and who would want to come here and get beat by 20+ points on a nightly basis

gt has some really good guards. causey is a 5th year senior pg mo miller is a true freshman but will be a stud and clinch isnt a pg but is a straight baller. then they have the athlete sg deandre bell. their backcourt pretty much played with kansas' straight up for most of the game and thats the best in the country.

bc has the best pg in the acc

without drastic improvement we won't win a single acc game.

This is my first post ever so all you wolfweb nerds will probably get on my ass about having less than 100,000 posts...blah blah blah but im tired of state basketball and the way we play and the sorry ass effort our team gives every game. Costner's the biggest disappointment of them all and i would venture to say that he cares nothing about basketball.

Finally, when will diehard state fans realize that Carolina doesn't give a shit about nc state and it's embarrassing and lame to hear all these state fans hate on carolina like its some big rival. Their fans chanted "NOT OUR RIVALS" right before halftime of the most pitiful half of basketball anyone has ever seen. Now I will admit I still root for nc state and i want them to succeed but i'm a realist and even though UNC may be the gayest school ever, at least they know how to play basketball and win games.

That's just my opinion.....and now let the mrcool bashing begin

^^I'm was a carolina fan before I came to state and still pull for carolina, and if you were to get outside of the triangle you'd realize most ppl outside of chapel hill still do consider state a rival. State and Carolina is a very traditional rivalry but most carolina fans now don't know the history of basketball in the state of North Carolina. It would take state 10 years of dominance to get back to where it use to be.

Its pretty obvious that UNC is more of a rival to NCSU than NCSU is to UNC at this point in time.

That and the fact that Carolina and Duke are both basketball schools so they lend themselves to being each other's rival. If State hadn't sucked so bad from the late 80s on, things might be different. But they aren't, and it doesn't take a genius like you to figure out why.

They'd mention us more if we were worth a fuck and actually "rivaled" them in ANYTHING sports. It seems all hatred for Carolina on our parts is as a result of some sort of Napoleon complex that took over once we had no more faith in our sports talking all the shit for us.

Most of the people at UNC really are pricks though, and that's why it doesn't matter what anybody's reason for hating them is.


Yeah, Carolina "knows how to win games," as you say, but they also know how to open up their checkbook, more importantly. Matt Doherty sure didn't know how to win games. And if you ask me, neither does Butch Davis (as you'll all soon find out what a bust that'll be as I've been saying all along).

Uh, it started specifically in basketball when V left. 1991 I believe is the last time we've won an ACC title (sad as fuck).

Football I'm not too sure about. We've done just as much as UNC has though. I know we used to regularly whoop their asses; especially when Sheridan was here.

yep.

honestly, before i came here 4 years ago i really didnt even consider the ncstate-unc rivalry...ive grown up in the ACC my entire life and to me it was always clemson vs south carolina (not ACC, but what i grew up with), unc vs duke, and then the tobacco road matchups.

of course i understand the history of the ACC and how we are one of the biggest contributors to the history of basketball, along with wake and duke and unc, but realistically when you suck for years within 20 miles of arguably the two best basketball programs of the last 25 years you're gonna get shafted.

and we're not even getting shafted recently, we're getting destroyed, owned, blown out, murdered, etc. you get the point.

it will take a long long long loooonng time before this program gets off the ground and competes with the likes of duke and unc, and this year is further proof that even a #1 rated 5***** mcdonalds all american cant single handedly take us to where we want to be.

you've got to have at least 3-4 NBA quality players now + chemistry to even try to play with Duke and UNC. fuck, duke isnt even one of the best teams in the country. we cant even compete with Clemson...you know why?? because although Clemson has had some rough basketball past, Oliver Purnell has recruited athletes with talent and passion.

not saying we lack talent and passion, but it does appear that we lack the latter and it will take a while before Sid builds this program to where we want it to be. Expecting him to come in 1 year, aquire Herbs players, have a few months to recruit, and then compete for a national title is insanity. It doesnt happen overnight.

We suck big time, and im not gonna say that things couldnt be better, because i damn well think that Sid can prepare these kids to compete with passion and heart, but its also early and great things take time (at least thats what I'm telling myself).

it is hard though to watch these guys go out on the floor and look like they dont give a damn about wearing that red and white. im damn proud of my school, but unfortunately the college of engineering doesnt get national tv ESPN primetime coverage...

btw, it wouldn't take 10 years for us to be a rival of theirs again. It would take a few years of continuous dominance. We'd have to affect their tournament seeding, their ACC ranking, SOMETHING. We haven't been anything to them but a pest as best. One win last year, and what happens? They beat us twice. We got one-upped and we're still celebrating about that one miracle win.

You all do realize that Duke being swept by them last year is the first in like a decade?

I have faith in the Wolfpack! We are back to back mascot national champions at the Chick-Fil-A Cheer and Dance Nationals. Our dance team and cheerleaders finish in the top 10 in the nation every year too. At least they never lose at home.

That's the way it is, and that's the way it'll always be. We in fact do have the same people that cheer for State like that, but you wouldn't know it because what have we done recently to cheer about? I met this guy at a gas station up here not too long ago that was DIE HARD NCSU football fan. I mean, this dude was parading the streets with flags, streamers magnets, etc. and when I went in he was talking about how awesome the UNC football game was. He asked if I went (I had my state hat on), I said no, then he said, "I bet it was wild and crazy out there." Dude didn't even go to the game with all that shit on his truck.

And according to that stupid News poll recently, there are more State fans in NC than their are the other two schools combined (don't know how skewed that it, but fuck it).

Why do we suck? Why have we sucked for so long?

I know what I've heard and overheard from old folks. I'm looking for everybody's input. Repeating, "We've sucked for twenty or thirty years," means shit without discussing why. I have some ideas that I'll abstain from sharing until I'm sober. But I wonder...at some point in our school's history, was there a "deemphasis" placed on sports and winning? It just seems fucking odd to me that a school can fucking drop off like that...and we're all supposed to sit around and pretend like we've always sucked or like it's some big fucking mystery as to why we started sucking so bad...


Remember, folks: our shittiness is UNC-CH's goodness. Over the years, as we've gotten shittier and shittier and become smaller and smaller contenders in sports, Chapel Hill has gotten more and more of the attention, allowing their programs to rise even higher.
