I'm planning to reinstall XP this weekend and I have a question... how easy will it be to remove "dead" XP OS files after I reinstall? that is, all the stuff/programs that will not be in my new installation's registry... is there a program that will seek all this excess crap out and help me get rid of all of it after I put the fresh OS on?

i'm confused as to your question...if you're doing a fresh install, there won't be any "dead" files...quick format the drive during setup and you're fine...just realize that doing the format will cause you to lose everything on the drive (that's not QUITE true, but true enough)

basically, i've got so much stuff on my C drive that it will take a very long time for me to sort through it all to save before formatting my c drive. I could just switch the jumper settings so that another drive is the master drive, I guess, but my c partition has the most space as well. I guess I could also repartition but then that's just almost getting to the point where I'd rather reformat. I might get to the point where I will just find all my stuff worth keeping and dump it to a backup drive.
