I have a 1G MacBook. I currently have an 80g harddrive. I would like to upgrade to a 250g. I need room for my movies and music. I have no idea what to look for and where to buy. Does anyone have any suggestions or done this before that is willing to help. I have been to a few websites that discuss this topic but they are far too complicated regarding the technical specs.

just go down to bestbuy or circuit city and buy an external hard drive.

or go over to the apple store and get one. you can get 500gb or 1tb even.

there really isn't much to it that you need to know. all that matters is basically the physical size, I think the standard internal desktop drive is 3.5" while laptops are 2.5". The only other thing that you really need to be sure is right is the interface.. either IDE or SATA.

IDE:

SATA:

Other than that you just need to find the size you want.

Noen has an excellent point though, an external drive is your best option IMO. It's is far easier to install, virtually anything you buy WILL work and you'll be able to move data easily to other computers if needed.

here are compatible HDDs for a MacBook
http://www.ifixit.com/Products/MacBook-13-Inch/Hard-Drives/7/86
you can buy from there, or just look for those exact models somewhere else

here's a guide on how to replace it
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook-Core-Duo/Hard-Drive-Replacement/86/5/
on the MacBook, replacing the HDD is pretty dummy-proof. The hard(er) part will be reinstalling OS X and migrating all your data and stuff
