Quote : | "Which college's NFL alumni would field the strongest pro team? You need enough players in the league to have starters at each position, which probably narrows it down to 10-12 programs with enough alumni to insure enough starters to build a top 22 with no one playing out of position... Given the importance of QB play, you'd have to think Michigan with Brady would be at the top, but looking at the DL, it's pretty thin (only 3 DL in the league, and 1 DE). Maybe Tennessee? – DB
A: It’s always a fun argument that until recently was always won by Miami. Now, as strange as it sounds for the former factory, there’s no quarterback to lead the way. Tennessee is in the discussion, especially with Peyton Manning, Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry in the backfield, Robert Meachem and Donte Stallworth at receiver, Jason Witten at tight end, but the O line would be a problem. The defensive tackle combination of John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth would be a killer, the ends would probably be Shaun Ellis and Parys Haralson, the linebackers Omar Gaither, Kevin Burnett, and incoming rookie Jerod Mayo, and the secondary Jason Allen, Gibril Wilson, Deon Grant and I’d take incoming rookie Jonathan Hefney. USC would pose a challenge.
Carson Palmer, Reggie Bush, LenDale White and Justin Fargas in the backfield, Steve Smith (of the Giants) and Keary Kolbert at receiver, incoming rookie Fred Davis at tight end, a line starting with Ryan Kalil, Deuce Lutui, incoming rookie Sam Baker, and bust Winston Justice, a D line of Mike Patterson, Shaun Cody, Frostee Rucker, and incoming rookie Sedrick Ellis and/or Lawrence Jackson, a killer linebacking corps of Lofa Tatupu, Junior Seau and incoming rookie Keith Rivers, and a secondary starting with Troy Polamalu, and then being forced to play Darnell Bing and Will Poole. Tom brady at QB RB's of mike Hart and anthony thomas WR's of Bralyon Edwards, Armani Toomer, Mario Manningham TE Jerame Tuman OL Jeff Backus, Steve Hutchison, Maurice Williams, Jon Runyan, Jon Jansen DL Alan Branch, James Hall, Gabe Watson, Lamar Woodley LB Cato June, Dhani Jones, Ian Gold DBs Charles Woodson, Leon Hall, Ty Law, Marlin Jackson K Jay Feeley
I like that team better than the tennesse one. Defensively we have a pretty big advantage (except for DT's) . offensively we get killed on RB's & TEs but we have better WRs and MUCH better OL

might be easier to see if its written in a list form... everyone do a team of two...
Tennessee QB - Peyton Manning RB - Jamal Lewis RB - Travis Henry TE - Jason Witten WR - Donte Stallworth WR - Robert Meachem OT - Chad Clifton OG - Anthony Herrera C - Scott Wells OG - Fred Weary OT - Arron Sears
DE - Shaun Ellis DT - John Henderson DT - Albert Haynesworth DE - Parys Haralson LB - Omar Gaither LB - Kevin Burnett LB - Jarod Mayo DB - Jason Allen DB - Gibril Wilson DB - Deon Grant DB - Jonathan Hefney
^ no center so it doesnt work; I thought Michigan had a center that came out a few years ago, guess not... its hard to get a full team

I'm not sure of all the specifics, but I'm pretty sure that even with Vinny Testaverde as their QB a team of Miami alums would beat down anyone else. 1/19/2008 3:05:50 AM |

Ohio State
QB - Troy Smith RB - Antonio Pittman RB - Chris Wells (or the ghost of Eddie George) TE - Ben Hartsock WR - Joey Galloway WR - Santonio Holmes WR - Terry Glenn (or Anthony Gonzalez/Ted Ginn Jr.) OT - Shane Olivea OG - Rob Sims C - LeCharles Bentley OG - Tyson Walter OT - Orlando Pace
DE - Will Smith DT - Quinn Pitcock DT - Dan Wilkinson DE - Darrion Scott LB - AJ Hawk LB - Matt Wilhelm LB - Mike Vrabel DB - Nate Clements DB - Shawn Springs DB - Donte Whitner DB - Antoine Winfield (or Nate Salley)
K - Mike Nugent
not a bad team, theres definetly a surplus of WR, LB and DB and a major shortage of QB and RB

the OSU team listed has Wilkinson who's not in the league anymore, so I'll touch it up in a couple spots. And based on available talent, I'll use a 3-4 defense:
QB- Troy Smith RB- Antonio Pittman (as he's the only one now) WR- Joey Galloway WR- Santonio Holmes WR- Terry Glenn TE- Ben Hartsock OT- Orlando Pace OG- Doug Datish C- LeCharles Bentley OG- Rob Sims OT- Shane Olivea
DE- Will Smith DT- Ryan Pickett DE- Jay Richardson LB- AJ Hawk LB- Mike Vrabel (red zone GOD) LB- Matt Wilhelm LB- Anthony Schlegel DB- Shawn Springs DB- Nate Clements DB- Donte Whitner DB- Antoine Winfield
K- Mike Nugent
Fuck Penn State, we know who the real Linebacker U* is.
*I will agree that it could be Miami as well, but it certainly isn't PSU. 1/19/2008 10:04:40 AM |

UM's NFL linbackers are actually just as good as OSU's 1/19/2008 10:08:38 AM |

please elaborate on that as I'm pretty busy laughing.
My laughter is assuming you're talking all-time. If it's current, UM does have some quality LBs in the leauge.

why does everybody keep putting locklear at G? He plays RT. (ok i see that espn.com has him listed as g, but he plays rt) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/teams/depth?team=sea
also, we could play krob at rb, he was an rb in HS. he could be a westbrook/bush type of back
also, like boob_r said, our #1 cornerback is obv williams. he fucking covered randy moss. 1/19/2008 1:51:04 PM |

Our O-line would get dominated, but overall....we field a pretty decent team. Can't believe the 2 people that have posted their "All NFL NC State teams" have put dovonte and marcus ahead of brian williams. with williams in there, our secondary would be quite good. Also, our WR's would be dirty with Rivers throwing to them.......Holt, Cotchery and Robinson?? nasty 1/20/2008 4:24:12 AM |

also, ollie-pop could play both ways and we could run a 3-4 since we have only one real DE, or else he could play lb in the 4-3 while lawson goes back to DE and mccargo/pressley/tyler sub each other out at DT or one moves to o-line 1/20/2008 5:13:10 PM |
