I'm pretty sure I got suspended from Sports Talk for something I said last week and I'm pretty sure that I was meant to have a week-long suspension for it, but I don't know for sure. If someone gets suspended for something they should get an email saying why and what they did wrong. I'm fairly certain I know what I did but I'm not 100%. If I actually got suspended and not locked out of my account for some random error I would like to know about it and how long I'm going to be locked out for. I wasn't completely sure and I had several matters about buying books that were not able to be taken care of last week because of the suspension. I would just like to be informed if I am actually suspended or not and why and not get straight locked out of my account.

Also, getting locked out of the forum for which you cause the offense and not the entire site would be a better approach if you won't inform people of what offense they incurred. I honestly don't know 100% why I wasn't allowed to login for a week, but I have a suspicion. Either an email should be sent explaining why a user was suspended or a user should only be suspended from the particular forum he infringed upon. Like I said, I had to wait a week to log back into my account to get a book I needed last week. This is my main concern. People conduct business on this site and when they don't know why or for what they can't log in to their accounts it is extremely frustrating. Please work on the site to allow the moderators a little bit more cooperation with the users so that the users are more informed of any misdeeds. Any offense that is committed and then not explained is bound to be committed again.

If you really needed the book that bad, you should have either gotten on a friends account and PMed the person you were buying the book from, or just paid $5 and made another account and contacted them with that.

you know what was funny?

when CrazyJ took my html away twice without a warning

you know why it's funny?

lolololol, because he had a part in MAKING the guidelines about suspensions/warnings/etc....and then he didn't even follow them.

Lay off the racist comments in Sports Talk and you should be good to go.

Well there's so many racist comments everywhere else that it's hard to know where it's allowed or not. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've posted in Sports Talk and I'm not gonna spend all my time reading the guidelines for posting in each individual forum. But would it seriously be that difficult to implement a form for when a moderator suspends someone to explain to that person what they did? I don't appreciate being locked out of my account without an explanation for a week and not having any one of my 3 contact form things replied to over the course of a week. I probably wouldn't have been able to log in to my account for even longer if I hadn't sent another one.

It's just so frustrating to get blocked out of your account for something you might not be sure of what you did for a time period that you are not sure how long it will last. It also seems like the mods like to go on power trips so I'm sure every suspension is not as clear cut as mine was. I believe people would just like a little more communication from the mods because there seem to be a large number of people pissed off at this exact situation.

Well I'm referring more to the fact that I filled out the contact form 3 times with the email address I use each time asking them for:

1) Why I got suspended.

2) How long I should expect to be suspended for.

I think neither one of these was unreasonable. I told them my username. I never got a reply back 1 time over the course of a week. It was only after the 3rd time and a week had gone by that I got unsuspended. I don't think anyone cares when people legitimately get suspended, but it really seems like this beardawg character is pissing all over everybody just because he can.

I, too, would like to know why no warning or explanation was given for suspension.
According to posting rules, I don't see how I did anything warranting suspension (especially a considerably longer suspension than others suspended due to the Sports Talk / Garage fiasco). An explanation of some sort would be greatly appreciated.

in general the mod that suspends the user is the one to unsuspend them

in your ^ case i think it was just a matter of the mod forgot - you know what you did though and it didn't warrant any sort of warning...sometimes if you act like an idiot then you get treated like an idiot

^There were three different mods who suspended ppl that night which is why there were differences in the length of the suspensions.

same here. i wasn't suspended for nearly as long as she was, but i made two valid comments in two sports talk threads- didn't even make an actual thread in sports talk- yet i get suspended. you can't punish us for who we're associated with.

There should be a wall of shame section detailing all suspensions as well as providing a section for meta-suspension discourse so it gets the fuck out of the feedback forum.

Hmm... what did I do? Oh yeah- I created ONE THREAD about the #1 mascot on a recent list of the Top 10 Sports Mascots published by Forbes. I thought the picture of Phillie Phanatic was hilarious. It reminded me of the yip yip yip characters from Sesame Street (which is why I edited my post in the way that I did). Yes, it wasn't talking about getting someone the ball in the current game, but it was sports related. Since when is making a single thread 'acting like an idiot?'

Lets consider the posting guidelines:
Quote :
"Go light with the insults - It is welcomed to attack someone's ideas but please refrain attacking character.
Watch the language - it would be ridiculous to ask a bunch of college students to eliminate the use of foul language in their discussion, that is not what I am asking. Just keep the 4 letter words out of the subjects of the message. The idea is for any new user to have to click 3-4 times before he/she gets offended
Don't incriminate yourself - There is always the chance that a member of law enforcement could browse this board. Do not post anything that will incriminate you or someone else.
Post new threads in the right section - Save us the trouble of having to move your topic to the correct section. Post in the right section to begin with. Additionally, if you post the same topic in multiple sections or post a dummy topic pointing to a topic in another section, this is grounds for immediate suspension. Nothing pisses us off more than seeing "I posted this in <insert right section> but no one looks there so now I am posting it in <insert wrong section> to get more attention". The Wolf Web does provide free advertising and attention, in the CORRECT places.
Stay On-Topic - Try to stick with the topic. If you have something important to say that doesn't relate to the topic, then start a new topic. If you have something useless to say, keep it to yourself.
Be thoughtful/humorous - Hundreds of people browse the message board each day. Before you post something, think to yourself, "would the majority of the users want to read this?". If the answer is "no", then don't post it.
No threads directed personally - Do you think the other thousand people on this site want to read some personal shit between you and your buddy? - NO. Use mail instead.
Do not consecutively reply to a topic - If you are within the alloted timespan for editing a message that no one has replied to and you think of something to add, EDIT the message. DO NOT REPLY AGAIN. Constant abuse of this will not be tolerated.
Do not fuck with the moderators - Not really a requirement, but more of a suggestion. A key suggestion: If they contact you in private about an issue, reply back in private. There is nothing that pisses them off more than you publicly broadcasting information meant for just you. "

I did not insult anyone, use foul language, incriminate myself, get off topic, direct the thread personally, consecutively reply to a topic, or fuck with the mods. At best, my topic was better suited for chit chat. Infact, I thought my thread was quite humorous... but if others did not agree they could have made me aware of that fact.

Now let's review what is posted about account abuse:
Quote :
"Account abuse will not be tolerated under ANY circumstances. As we have limited the accounts per user to ONE, we presume that our users will value their sole account at The Wolf Web. All users must abide by the Posting Guidelines. Free accounts and Paid accounts will be treated identically. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any user account. Account discipline will be enforced in the following manner :
Offense 1 : User will recieve a warning via email.
Offense 2 : User will be suspended for an indefinite timespan based on the severity of the offense.
Offense 3+ : User account will be terminated unless a fine of an amount determined by the active moderator will be paid to The Wolf Web for the abuse of service. "

I have never been warned or suspended for any reason. Hence, no matter how you look at this situation, this event was my first offense. I should have received a warning e-mail or PM. Some sort of warning stating that my actions would not be tolerated. This action I would have respected.

So many users break these rules daily, but because they have relationships & history with the moderators they are not punished equally. I was suspended within a minute of posting my thread. As an example, Yoshiemaster had to outright push gunzz's buttons for an extended period of time before any action was taken.

Bottom line: Mods- Your blatant disregard for guidelines isn't going to gain the respect that you so obviously desire to obtain.

yoshie was warned by me and i also didnt suspend him. im hardly online during those times...the stuff he posted was sent to me in a pm by several users. i had 5 different pms in my inbox this morning just about that.

yoshie was also making parody threads in entertainment which the mod for that section handled

your veil of indignation is humorous, but its pretty obvious you were contributing to the whole "overrun sports talk" effort.

i mean come on...over the course of three years, with well over 1000 posts, you've never once posted in sports talk, much less created a thread there.

who exactly are you trying to fool?

people who post in sports talk regularly can try and run this game, but you're a bit out of place here.

^^ it doesn't matter. i'm in the same boat as her. i didn't even make a thread, i made two legitimate posts in threads that later got deleted, but i was also suspended. everyone who posts in sports talk had a "first time" at some point. just because we happened to pick that day doesn't mean you can jump to the conclusion that we were involved in the "overrun sports talk" shenanigan. that's a pretty big assumption.

keep it up if it makes you feel better inside but nothing is being accomplished other than that

right - just making a valid thread - why are you even bothering? i assume you are just bored and hoping for some legit response to your crap

^heh... that's funny.

For the record, I'm not pretending I didn't post in Sports Talk along with other members of the Garage. I am also not saying what I did was not out of place. I am saying someone needs to follow some GD protocol.

SUSPENSIONS SHOULD BE DONE SYSTEMATICALLY, NOT ON THE WHIM OF AN ANONYMOUS MODERATOR.

According to the account abuse guidelines, a first offense receives a warning. I received no such warning. Hence, protocol was not followed and I was unnecessarily suspended.

i'm sincerely sorry that you are unaware of the suspension policy

for better or worse that has pretty much never been followed - since the beginning of TWW - i'm not sure how you've been here for 3 years and didn't know that - maybe it's because before now you didn't act like an idiot and thus didn't have to worry about it - like most of the TWW userbase that goes unsuspended

Then why is it in place??? I've witnessed & read stories of people having a legitimate reason for being suspended and being warned for their behavior.

Honestly, I'm not the one who started the thread... and it doesn't seem to have been a recurring problem until recently.

I agree that more users are whining/complaining now that someone is listening - it doesn't necessarily give any more warrant to the whining/complaining though

that text was put in place a long time ago by someone who isn't around anymore so I don't think you'll get an answer to your question...

Honestly, if you did something knowingly to fuck with another section you should have gotten suspended... even if it wasn't that bad.

For fucks sake, I got suspended for no reason at all (the mod THOUGHT I was picbombing a thread in ST but I posted a picture that was relevant to the thread only once) and didn't bitch about it all.. the mod apologized to me too... Get over it.

Don't be an immature fuckstick and you won't get suspended. Period.

What about people like myself, who got suspended for no reason, and wasn't even online during the stuff that I think I am getting accused for.
There was no reason, no warning, no purpose, and no one who will step up and admit who suspended me.

I'll agree that the whole thing wasn't really handled evenly. I posted in a couple of the "overrun" threads knowing full well what they were, because I thought it was funny. I did not get suspended, maybe b/c I do sometime post in ST, maybe because I've been around forever and don't tend to cause trouble. And I'm not trying to stir the pot here--just agreeing that it wasn't handled evenly, and some changes to moderation would be a good thing. Like the title of this thread--explanations when someone does get suspended.

oh, don't you know? by the new uber leet skillz the mods have to see ip's, you're obviously optmusprimer's alias.

synapse: have you already forgotten how your position in classifieds was opened up?

why does it even matter what the motive was behind people making threads in sports talk? the only thing that matters is that sports related threads were made that didn't violate any guidelines yet they were deleted and people suspended. the fact that this drew such a negative response from the sections mod only shows to prove how overzealous he is. it has nothing to do with what the posters motives were.

the posters followed the rules and guidelines, plain and simple. the mods did not. end of story.
