when the drugs she gives me fail to help me in the manner they are supposed to, she doesn't prescribe me an alternative, or prescribe me what i had a history of good results from. because i'm a young adult with a mood disorder and anxiety and obviously will abuse any real drugs i receive!

others use their patients as unknowing guinea pigs, to gather data for some research

still others are pharmaceutical company robots (like MDs in general)

a "good psychiatrist" may be non-existent, or at least very hard to find

(if they're out there somewhere, I bet they've written a book critical of psychiatry)


I recommend a talk-therapy psychologist and a holistic/nutritional MD

you may have to buy your prescriptions from canada or mexico, though

Well, we have the ingorant, cynical, hippie perspective. A mood disorder is not something that can be treated effectively with herbs and accupuncture. It would be dangerous to the person's health, not to mention a waste of money to try such methods in place of getting proper medication and treatment.

That's why I get either my family doctor or ObGyn to prescribe my psychiatric drugs. They'll list various options and let me tell them what I believe would work best for me.
