Third Eye Blind - Jumper is an obvious one.

Everclear has a couple depressing songs about fucked up childhood (ie Father of Mine, Wonderful)

Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth

just to throw out some 90's melodrama.
