why do people give you such a hard time for doing so?
We have a business casual dress code, but most of the time I'll still wear a tie. A lot of the other engineers think it's stupid for dressing up more than you have to. Personally I think a tie looks good, but the others still make fun of me 1/28/2008 7:33:21 PM |

because deep down they're insecure about how sloppy they look
ignore them, and remember to clean off your nose every once in a while

i mean, i wouldnt give you shit for it if that is your thing, but at an engineering place where everybody dresses business casual and many actually dress worse, a tie is kinda nerdy/overkill.
they say dress for the job you want, but i work for a big engineering corp and nobody wears ties til you get to the executive level. not even department managers and division directors wear ties, at least not daily. 1/28/2008 8:54:45 PM |

if your boss wears one then laugh at them when you get promoted - if not then your boss is probably with them and you'll be where you are while a coworker who is more "down to earth" takes the job

Wow. If it's nice out I'll come to the office in a t-shirt in shorts. No one where I work wears ties. Not my boss, nor his boss, nor his boss. Maybe the sales guys do but def no one in engineering. 1/28/2008 11:28:43 PM |
