You will never get 1 penny above "good" KBB value on TWW- If you are not looking to sell for that dollar amount or less then you ought to log off, delete user name, and head to your brothers car lot, throw on a bow-tie, and wait with your thumb up your ass for a sucker to wonder by- 1/28/2008 10:56:33 PM |

while i will concede that toyota trucks typically have a higher market value vs. book value, this price is ridiculous. maybe for a 4wd extended cab.
also, just because you have it sitting on your brother's car lot doesn't mean you automatically ask retail for it. typically, car dealers include some extras that most private parties don't. these are things like detailing, performing any neccessary repairs or maintinance, complete vehicle history, a limited warranty in some cases, etc.
so, what are you offering that would be worth paying a premium? it sounds like you're asking someone to pay dealer price without offering anything in return. 1/29/2008 12:08:51 AM |

^ I agree that toyota trucks typically do have higher market value but to say that this price is ridiculous is a little farfetched. I was actually surprised by the high values tacomas are listed at in looking for a double door tacoma. based on the extensive searching i did i thought the price was fair. I know this is tww and people normallly expect to get things dirt cheap here but also know that a serious buyer would take this into consideration. as far as repairs and maintenance...it doesnt need any..perfect working order. the car has been detailed also. I'd say the least im looking to get for this is 7500-thats why i posted reasonable offer.
thanks for the input BBR 1/29/2008 12:20:32 AM |

there's a reason they differentiate between
RETAIL PRIVATE PARTY and TRADE-IN 1/29/2008 12:11:20 PM |

well, i'd say that's part of the problem then for two reasons:
1. double cab tacomas weren't produced until 2001. prices are obviously going to be a little higher for it simply being a year or more newer.
2. an extended or double cab are both more desirable and also cost more new than a regular cab. logic tells us they're going to command a higher resale as well.
even though it's a pre runner, it's still first and foremost a 2wd regular cab. they just don't have the appeal of the other models. i might also add that it doesn't have the trd package either (unless it's just missing the badges), which is a big draw for anyone that's looking for a pre runner specifically.
i think your figure of $7500 with a little room to work would be a lot more reasonable. it's your truck though, ultimately you can ask whatever you want.1/30/2008 12:36:52 AM |

I see several problems with this truck for that price: 1. 2WD 2. 4 Cyl 3. Regular cab
if it were a 4x4, v6, extended cab.... now that would be a good price 1/30/2008 12:42:01 AM |

can this be documented? if not, it doesn't mean a thing... especially for the timing belt.1/31/2008 12:51:09 AM |

Not trying to hijack the thread..but I have been looking into getting a Tacoma. (Not for what this guy is asking) Since it sounds like some people here know their trucks, this thread seemed like the perfect time to get some questions answered. What year did the Tacoma go from belt to chain? If I am not mistaken, Toyota stopped timing belts for their entire line. I just do not know the year. Also..what year was the VVI introduced in the Tacoma? 1/31/2008 11:34:42 AM |

^ That is my understanding...but I am far from an expert. And I am also not sure how far back that goes.
Going to check out that thread and Edmunds...Thanks 1/31/2008 7:05:14 PM |
