doh! 4.3 and 2.8 arent the same bolt pattern are they. so maybe the 2.8 got swapped for a 3.4... any way to easily identify a 3.4 block?? paging moparnum5 1/29/2008 7:36:52 PM |

if you push the gas pedal with the 2.8 it laughs if you push the gas pedal with the 4.3 it goes
firing order, 2.8 is oddly enough 123456 the 4.3 should be 165432 1/29/2008 7:41:22 PM |

come on, you know the routine by now... year/make/model ho. or at least a better description of the motor. what kind of induction/injection, what side the starter is on, etc...
i can tell you how to tell the difference, but i need a little more info on what you're looking at. 1/29/2008 10:11:32 PM |

the 2.8/3.4 is a 60degree motor...tiny little thing.
the only dif between the 2.8 and 3.4 is the ribbing on the side of the 3.4 block (for her pleasure). other than that.....it's the same damn thing...
look between the headers..that's the ribbing not found on the 2.Greats

^ whereas the 4.3 is 90degree and looks just like a good ol' smallblock... but only 3 cylinders long 1/29/2008 11:53:30 PM |

yeah, but that's a hit or miss way to tell. to the trained eye, it's not hard... but if you haven't looked at a bunch of both it is. i know a couple of relatively simple sure fire ways to tell what it is, but it depends on exactly what he's looking at.
also, what fartcanpwr said will work just fine also... it's just hard to see the casting with everything in place sometimes though, especially the later mpfi stuff. 1/30/2008 12:05:11 AM |

^yep. namely starter placement being the most obvious. also, fwd blocks were used in some rwd applications... 1/30/2008 12:46:21 AM |
