McCain and Giuliani run together: GOP Grassroots supporters all abstain. 1/29/2008 11:35:06 PM |

^And the independents all flock to the ticket.
McCain would smoke Hillary even if he had Newt Gingritch as his running mate. Obama would be a tougher challenge.

I don't think so.
I think Hillary winning the nomination opens her up to a lot of attack.
It would be a devastating campaign season.
And while I personally would favor McCain, I think you seriously underestimate how terrible Giuliani or Ron Paul would be as running mates.

I would take a shit, name it, and write its name on the ballot before voting for Romney. I don't think the democrats have it in the bag at all, but a candidate that is too far right can't beat the Dems this time around. The republican party better be thinking about independent and moderate voters or all bets are off.
The Democrats that remain are all poised to put spending even further out of control, be weak on national security, and raise taxes. 1/29/2008 11:45:01 PM |

He'd better come up with someone way more moderate if he has any hope of being elected. Even if McCain wins the nomination I'd say there's still an 80% chance I vote Democrat this time around. If he partners up with Giuliani, Thompson, Huckabee, or Romney that chance drops to 0%. 1/30/2008 5:05:40 AM |

I really don't care who the VP is, so long as they consent to being virtually powerless like VPs used to be... we don't want another Cheney era, where the Vice President of the US tried to find every loophole he can in order to increase executive power. 1/30/2008 5:59:38 AM |

You do realize he is running under a republican ticket. More moderate? Are you kidding me. Yeah, more moderate will appeal more to the republican base who already view mccain as a democrap.
I guess its romney or bust, maybe huck can have a big supertues.
The only chance mccain has if he gets the nomination is that clinton runs against him. Most republicans cant stand her and will come out ot vote against her. If not, after W, this is the best we have? So depressing. If mccain wins the republican party is in deepshit.1/30/2008 9:04:11 AM |

If McCain wins, then the republican party has a chance to save itself from the religious nutjobs that seem to have infested it.

^^ Very True. We're already suffered through 8 years of a liberal republican prez and now they want to nominate an even more liberal republican?
He's
anti First Amendment: McCain-Feingold anti-tax relief: Voted against Bush tax cuts part of the Big Gov't insider corruption: Keating Five a Flip Flopper: Gay Marriage
In trying to appeal to left-leaning voters, republicans will once again ignore conservatives and force us to vote for another rhino neo-con...in order to prevent Hillary/Obama from doing even more damage to the country.

^^^ Romney a flip flopper? I mean, I have my doubts about Romney, but if you people consider him a flip flopper, then McCain is like a fish out of the water.
Apples to apples, McCain flip flops just as much if not more on recent issues. Besides, by the way that McCain hisses all the time when he talks, I wouldn't doubt he's a sneaky little snake.

Ok. All you people who think McCain is a "Democrat," riddle me this. Who is more Democrat? Hilary/Obama or McCain? You do realize that there is no chance in hell that any one of your other candidates can win a general election, right? Just because your base is behind a candidate doesn't mean shit. They have to appeal to independents enough to win as well. That's what happened to Kerry in 04. He had a huge support from the base, but he lost because of his lack of appeal to independents (among other reasons). Would it not be better to cut your losses and nominate someone who has a shred of electability than rather than someone who completely conforms to the base's ideals? That's what many people in the Republican Party are realizing when they vote for McCain. No one else has a snowball's chance in hell at winning a general election. 1/30/2008 10:55:17 AM |

I like McCain because he has been in the trenches his whole life. He knows what it takes to work on both sides of the aisle. He has given more to this country than most of us could ever conceive and I believe that he has this country's interest in mind most of the time which is more than most politicians can claim.
He may not have that "look" that Obama has or that charm, but he will work hard all the time. I like Obama, but he is too green and beyond his message of "change," whatever that means, he seems to be a pretty package and not much else. Obama should be president one day, but not yet.

I love the religious nut jobs arguement.
Id like to know, honestly, over the last 8 years how many times were your dragged to church? Or forced to give money to churchs?
Call me crazy, but I find it alot more scary when people talk about increasing govt and spending than they do talking about thier beliefs in god.
But what do I know, im just a educated republican that doesnt go to church much. But I dont remember being forced to learn the bible in the last 8 years.
Im not a bush fan, mostly because I dont view him as a conservative. So mccain is just the same ole shit we have in office right now. Fiscal liberal that is strong on defense and anti-gay and pro amnesty... wow, cant wait for 4 more years of this shit. 1/30/2008 1:22:16 PM |

The Democratic base is energized no matter what. Their turnouts for all of their primaries have been high, they want to see a D after the President's name in '09, so I don't think that any of the candidates would really scare them away. I think McCain has a pretty decent shot of luring independents away from her, but no-one can win without their base. So, the more I think about it, a Mac / L candidacy would make 0 sense. I think you're more likely to see a Southern republican than Leiberman for that one. 1/30/2008 1:38:05 PM |
