I've been jamming these Altec Lansing ADA880 system with the powered 8" sub for 9 years now...it is all you will ever want on a computer system. Being that old I would think you could find it cheap.

dude, the logitech's are 32W RMS, only 8W less per speaker and brand new for $30, i wouldn't spend $30 on 9 year old speakers that look like crap old

I'm still using my old AIWA NSXA888 system from back in 99, it's still unbeatable.

The Tiger Direct outlet on capitol blvd had logitech Z-2300 THX rated 2.1 speakers for 102.99. Might want to call and see if they still do. That would be a very good deal.

Me and my friend have the 230s, and my dad has the 240s. Best $50 speakers ever.

I got teh VS 4121 for 46bux.. thats sub 50 bux and kicks the x230 anytime.. just listen to any song that has a good range of mid and low frequencies on the x230 and compare it to the VS 4121.. u'll throw the x230 right ut for sure.. I tested them side by side.. even the Z 2300 has the same prob;em.. they are just loud but have very bad freq response... Klipsch is too good but 130$ is a bit steep..

that thing will make some serious noise if you use the built in amp to drive one bigger unpowered sub instead of the stock 8''. We had it pushing a 15 inch kicker comp for our house parties and i will tell you it was a club-quality experience on ramen noodle budget

Does Boston Acoustics still make computer speakers? The MediaTheater 2.1 system that I got with my old Gateway PC back in '98 is still doing great almost 10 years later.

Brings up a good point. Do you want loud visceral noise, or clear balanced good sound with as much power behind it as possible without compromising the music? It's going to depend on how you're going to use it and what music you'll listen to.

This suggestion is alright if you'll be playing music for parties almost exclusively, but responsive bass is more important than loud bass if you're listening to a lot of other things.
