i'm going to dubai and get to choose my connection. I'm gonna pick a long layoff ~8 hours and have ~ 6 hours to spend in the city I go. With that said taking airport location, traveling time, traffic and such which would be the best place to spend this time out of....

you going to Dubai for business or pleasure? Or both? that is awesome though.
I think I'd go to Moscow. The other places i'd want to save for longer but I think a long day in Moscow would be pretty badass.
Wherever you go, take pics and bump this thread when you return. 2/3/2008 12:37:40 AM |

Amsterdam by far, london and paris are overrated as fuck. Never been to Moscow, but I can't see it beating Amsterdam. 2/3/2008 4:55:30 AM |

As I understand it you need a visa to even leave the airport in Moscow. I may be wrong, but they sound like dicks. 2/3/2008 5:09:43 AM |

pretty much exactly what I was going to write. London is cool, but I think you can see more in 6 hours in Amsterdam than you can in London.2/3/2008 9:08:47 AM |

paris and moscow are overrated.
london is better than the two above, but only slightly - as their food sucks.
i had a lot of fun in amsterdam and it wasn't b/c of the drugs. good food, places to go, and meeting people were all easier there. 2/3/2008 6:18:36 PM |

the real decision should be made based on which is the easiest airport to get in and out of and to and from, so you don't waste most of your time with that. 2/3/2008 8:46:34 PM |

Amsterdam. Its a really easy train ride from the airport to the city. Then a short walk to whatever you want to get into. Would be a sweet layover spot for a few hours. Wish I could afford your trip... 2/4/2008 11:07:08 AM |

~500 airlines each way is really not that bad. the normal hotels in dubai are not expensive at all. 2/4/2008 12:28:19 PM |

amsterdam. You'll spend half your 6 hours getting to and from the airport at heathrow. Paris is dirty. Moscow again would require more than 6 hours to appreciate it. 2/4/2008 3:34:46 PM |

It might help to actually know what airport you're connecting in. It's quite a difference in distance from London with Heathrow as opposed to Gatwick or Stansted. I've flown in to all three and Heathrow is busier but closer... you're probably not looking at much time regardless in London. 2/4/2008 5:18:59 PM |

London is great, but you need a lot of time their to enjoy it as with the other cities listed. Amsterdam can be done in a short amount of time so I recommend that. sorry if this is repeated, i just didn't read the others. 2/4/2008 6:28:12 PM |

first of all, if you don't have a visa for Russia already, you're not going to get one before spring break without paying some serious cash for an agency to handle the process for you (or getting lucky and actually getting a visa completed in the "two week" timeframe they like to claim these days
secondly, an 8-hour layover isn't as long as you think it is. for example, if you're looking at london, expect the tube trip from heathrow to picadilly circus to take about an hour each way...you need to plan on at least an hour (maybe 2) to get back into security...and don't forget going through customes to get out in the first place (an hour or so)...so that already limits you to 3 hours of time in the city.
if you really want to do this, have an actual day, get a hotel, and enjoy the city some...otherwise, just wait until you go there for a real visit 2/5/2008 12:57:38 AM |

i dont want to go there for a real visit. my real visit is dubai but i rather spend 3 hours in the city than just an hour at the airport. sounds like amsterdam is the way to go. 2/5/2008 2:07:02 PM |
