Anyone tried or heard of it in North Carolina??
It's HUGE down here in Charleston. At my bar we probably go through at least three or four one-liter bottles a night on the weekends just making shots. It's 70 proof with a lot of caffeine. I hate vodka...and I could chug this down all night. Good alternative for the people who take shots to "wake themselves up" when its late in the night and they don't want Jager-bombs or Shaved Beavers. Also good to sip on the rocks and can make a ton of different girly martinis.
I went home to NC over Christmas and couldn't find it in the liqour stores (although I live in a really small town). But a good friend from Charlottesville said he had never seen it in the bars up there but was able to snag a bottle from the liqour store after Christmas and is now in love with it. A good friend in Athens said the bars there don't have it.
I've always found it interesting that different areas have such different drinking trends. I know Charleston and Baltimore are the largest consumers of Grand Marnier and Tuaca respectively because everyone there drinks them in shots (when they're mainly for snifters). Nowhere else in the country is like that. I worked in a bar in Wrightsville Beach and we might have gone through a bottle of Grand Marnier in a month...where we go through about a bottle and a half a night here.
So I was trying to figure out if the double espresso vodka has made its way to Raleigh or other places yet.

ive noticed the grand mariner thing as well
whats next
fucking triple sec???
i suppose the end game is just shooting bloody mary mix if we're on the slippery slope of shooting aperitifs and digestifs and on to drink mixes
to get back to the original topic, ive never tried the van gogh vodka, but I HIGHLY recommend:
you would think coffee and tequila would =
but it's actually very

^I forgot all about that.
I have tried the Patron Coffee shot on several occasions...its pretty good, but the Van Gogh Double Espresso is much much better. Two bars across the street from mine got rid of their Patron Coffee when the Van Gogh got so popular. 2/3/2008 11:24:01 AM |

I've never full understood the Grand Marnier thing as well, but I've made my own theories since I've lived down here for over two years working as a bartender and have probably drank my body's weight in "Gramma":
Charleston is a drinking city. People drink a lot everywhere...but EVERYONE here drinks ALL THE TIME. Its ridiculous. This also spills over to the people working in the bars and restaurants...except the servers and bartenders here drink a lot while they are working. I know it happens in other places too...but not even close to the extent that it happens here. I think some time ago some bartenders were looking for a liquor that they could shoot real quick that wasn't as "rough" as a whiskey or tequila. They decided on "Gramma." Its sweet, but still strong. So most people can shoot it, and those that can't, can get use to it.
Now its pretty much just a trend. I fucking hated it when I started shooting it at the first bar I worked at...but now its like drinking water I'm so use to it. I'd probably prefer a shot of Jameson or tequila if I'm going to shoot straight up....but I also don't think I could down 7 or 8 of those behind the bar every night like I can with Gramma.2/3/2008 11:31:44 AM |

^Haha...good stuff. I used to gag at the smell of Sambuca. Now I rather enjoy it. Its funny how if you drink enough of something you start to develop a taste for it. 2/3/2008 1:42:21 PM |
