Michigan's style of play was too slow to match App.

LSU will beat them like they owe them money.

App could cause them problems early with the spread attack. LSU showed last year it can give up yards to the spread. (UF, Ole Miss, even Arkansas). With that being said, there's no way App will slow down Perilloux and Co. Great game to start off the year though.

Nice, Texas Tech decided Tulsa would be a better choice.

remember that App played LSU just a few years ago and hung tough with them. the final score was 24-0 and LSU was ranked #6 in the nation at the time. the score was 14-0 going into the fourth then LSU scored 10 in the 4th quarter to widen the margin. App actually had a longer time of possession than LSU in that game and actually had more rushing yards than LSU who usually have a very strong running game and run defense.

I dont think AppState cares. As always the lower division school is always at an advantage. They'll get a lot of money for the game. ESPN/CNNSI/Sporting News/etc. will be building up this game forever. App State will get even more publicity. And they are expected to lose.

But I like that LSU will play them anyways.

^^^ that game was played late in the year and LSU was resting up for the SEC title hunt. I think that game was originally slated for the beginning of the year, but then came Katrina.

which is why "time of possession" is a bullshit stat when you can't put any points on the board

Didn't they do this a few years ago?

A friend of mine (app grad) was telling me about a conversation he had with an LSU fan about the game last time.

LSU fan: "We destroyed you guys, it was the worst beatown I have seen all year."

App fan: "Well, at least we still have our houses."

I think App will score more points this time, but their defense isn't as good either. It will be more like 35-17

you have got to be retarded

LSU is going to rape them. i'm not at all impressed with app. state, and i think its funny how so many of you actually are entertaining the idea that App.State's spread offense will some be kryptonite to LSU.

i wished we played them. there i said it.

put it in the quote thread, take a picture, i don't give a fuck

being #1 in the country at the end of the year sure does cloud some memories of what happened during the season...just because they beat your Volunteers probably doesn't help either

they gave up 353 yards to Ohio State. granted that's bad, but it is nearly 80 yards more than what Michigan gave up vs OSU

let's not forget that McFadden ran for 209 yards against them

or that Ole Miss put up 466 yards on them

LSU was clearly not the fastest team in the SEC this year....maybe you didn't listen to a single second of commentary before the title game - all the analysts said the same thing...it was the best option for OSU because LSU didn't have the speed of USC or WVU.

and like I said, it's not that I think ASU would win the game...of course the UM game was a perfect storm for a win...but to say that UM's style of play was slow compared to LSU is laughable

god damn i wish i could get that hour of my life back when i talked to you about Atlanta...if I had known you were such a self-righteous prick I never would have talked to you

This is a good opener for both teams. For LSU, it's practicing against a well executed spread offense that will help them prepare for similar type offenses in the SEC (i.e. Florida). For App. State, this is about showcasing Armanti Edwards, and seeing what he can do against a real defense. IF App. State can keep this competitive with Edwards putting up gaudy stats, then expect analysts to start talking about him to win the Heisman.

^ Note I said analysts. I don't think he has a chance to win the Heisman, though he's definitely the best 1AA player out there. However, analysts have a tendency to hype up players due to a performance in a single game. They'll go nuts over his stats in the Championship game last year, and if he does well against LSU, they'll forget about everything else and watch his every move over the month following the game until he has one bad performance. Then they'll all desert him for someone else.

Yeah, I guess if he did put up some gross numbers on LSU I could see them talking about it ever so briefly. But he could go crazy and have a perfect game every game of the season and he'd still have no real shot at the Heisman. I just don't think any of the voters would give him enough credit b/c its IAA (or whatever they're insisting we call it now).

The App-Mich game was awesome but it has a price. App is having a hard time filling it's schedule for next year. No ACC team wants to play them. Can't say I blame them because they charged Mich $400,000 for the loss.

Yeah, that's the catch 22 about the win. They've got some really big schools scheduled over the next three years or so. I hope for App's sake none of them pull out.

They have to schedule games they are expected to lose. Mid tier FBS teams will not play them b/c they could easily lose. The Southern conference also just added Samford, so that leaves them one less OOC game to play with. As it stands, they have LSU, JMU(very good FCS team), and 2 very bad FCS teams, one a transitional team. Its all or nothing for them, there is no in between.

granted, that is no excuse for michigan to lose to app.

the problem with most of the idiots in this thread is they put Michigan in the same class of talent as LSU

how many SEC teams have to wax Big Ten teams for you guys to understand how garbage of a conference the Big Ten is compared to the SEC

Yeah me either 3 straight National Championships and what 3 loses in 3 years? They are terrible.

And to the person talking about the ASU schedule, are you serious? They play LSU, the BCS champs, and James Madison, the last team other than ASU to win the 1-AA title. Who the fuck are they supposed to play?

It has nothing to do with a fear of losing, rather than a fear of having to play starters for too long and having to use more than 25% of the playbook. I honestly do not blame anyone in the BCS for not playing ASU, it is simply a no win situation because they Moutaineers have gotten to good.

i'm 99% sure he lost Pryor to ohio state, so far he's got a losing record to them but...
he got a mobile quarterback out of florida as his backup plan... and pat white wasn't supposed to be shit but look how he turned...

ASU is really just now beginning to expand their stadium. The listed capacity is about 16,500 and they are drawing 25,000 a game. They are constructing a new press box this off season. As for moving up, they really have nowhere to go. The only logical place they could go is the Sun Belt, all of which they can currently beat, so whats the use in that. The only other option would be Conference USA, but thats assuming that ECU moves to the Big Least and they occupy that spot. Still not sure if they have the travel budget for that conference. The moritorium on movement prevents them from doing anything right now, but my best guess is they will be an FBS team in 10 years.

the fact remains, nobody is going to consider them a legit team if their in conference schedule is a bunch of 1-aa cupcakes

they'll pull the upset every now and then and beat a 1-a team, but they also lost last season to wofford
