i'd say its second level. First levels are obviously nyc chitown and some others but raleigh is right there in the 2nd level of pizza towns

Originial unique experiences on raleigh's starting pizza lineup like mellow mushroom and lily's who both have their own style and atmosphere put raleigh up there with that 1-2 punch. Then you have some great ny style places like vincent's and amore's.

I personally am not a big fan of sylvias and <3 but some people tell me they are great places. are they? even without raleigh is coming hard when it comes to pizza.

Raleigh sucks ass when it comes to good pizza. You can take my word on it. I'm a pizza snob.

Sylvia's is some of the best pizza I have ever tasted. Far, FAR better than Mellow Mushroom (though this can be said about many pizza places). I <3 NY is also pretty good, but I tend towards Sylvia's unless the people I'm with want to go NY.

I will agree with some others, though, that we really don't have much when it comes to pizza. A few somewhat original establishments does not a pizza town make.

amore's is the best by far on hansbrough st. I've been all over nyc lived there a while and amore's would be one of the better places i've eaten at. Really only found 2 out of like 100 places in nyc better.

you don't know pizza until you find a place that gives you the choice of either their homemade sweet or homemade spicy sauce.

I've said my peace.

Mellow Mushroom started in Georgia and has locations in nearly 20 states. I would hardly call that "original unique experiences".

Also, Moonlight Pizza FTW.

Only two options? There are places out there that practically let you craft your own.

If you like domino's, marco's, and papa johns then its a great pizza town. Too bad they all suck, and so does Lilly's.

if raleigh is a great pizza town, that would mean that boone is a great pizza town. and i've never considered boone to be much of a pizza town. therefore, this thread is shit.

I love Amore's and Sylvias, probably my 2 favorite pizza places anywhere.

NY Pizza sucks.

Mellow Mushroom is good but overrated and somewhat overpriced.

^^ he's saying its a second level pizza town, not a true pizza town.. there are very few pizza towns and I honestly don't know what I think about raleigh being a second level town. We have a lot of non-chain options that are good/decent, but a lot of people from raleigh seem to think these places are top top notch (omg, omg) when in reality they're decent non chain options in the area.

FWIW, and while I do not agree nor disagree with this thread and I will not voice my own opinion, rather, I will just report what I've seen:

MSN rated the Top 10 Pizza Parlor's in America and the list went

Pizza Place in NY
Pizza Place in NY
Pizza Place in NY
Pizza Place in Chicago
Pizza Place in NY
Pizza Place in Chicago
Lilly's Pizza in Raleigh
Pizza Place in NY
Pizza Place in NY
Pizza Place in Chicago

That's an objective opinion

I left out two great ones because they have more than one location but they are all here.

Miltons and Rudinos

Raleigh is without a doubt a pizza town.

I think it all comes down to how you like your pizza.

I'm not big on the floppy crust, so I <3 ny is out for me.

I like the crust to be thin, but also crispy and somewhat chewy, which describes both Amore's and Sylvia's. You could probably take me to the greatest floppy crust NY pizza parlor in the world and I still would prefer Sylvia's.

Chicago style is good, but to me it's more like eating a casserole than a pizza.

Yeah but you included Mellow Mushroom, which has many locations. I ate at Mellow Mushroom in Boone just last week.
